I've been running 2008.5 very sucessfully on the computer for quite a while with no freeze-ups.

Just received my 2011 hd yesterday. Installed to operate everything off of the USB port.

I open the 2011 program and (it doesn't matter if I actually use it or not) then try to exit the program, I receive the following message in a window.

Access violation at address 06D9C9A1, write address 009F06DB at: 06D9C9A1

The 2011 is frozen- up and I have to use the "Task Manager" to close the 2011 program.

Other than the freese-up the 2011 program appears to function normally.

Anyone else have the hang-up?

How to fix?

Cheers,

Paul

When BB is closed down, it attempts to Write to one of its internal files.

If you are using Vista or Win7 Operating System, you will have to turn off the User Account Control (UAC) to keep it from preventing BiaB to write to that file.

There may be some other tweaks needed also, but you don't say what Operating System, Sound Device and coputer specs at your end, which makes it like shooting in the dark here.

That's a bad idea IMHO. It will decrease security of the computer, making it more vulnerable to viruses, trojan horses, etc.

It is better to just alter access permissions for the BIAB directory, i.e. set up "Full Control" for regular users.

on the other hand, many people use a dedicated PC for music making, and do not have it connected to the internet. If the computer isn't online (or networked to a PC that is) there is no problem turning off security features. In fact, it may be desirable in many cases to turn off everything that isn't needed for making music.

Paul, Running on W7-64 I had a freeze and an Access violation error after using it for a couple of days but I did not take a note of it and can't actually remember what I was doing in biab at the time, something with chords I think. However once I closed with the task manager and re-booted everything was fine and have not has another since. I remember it happened a few times when I first got version 10.5 too, maybe updates have sorted it out.
I don't fancy turning off UAC as I use the system for many other things other than music.

Mac,

I'm running Vista with 4 GB on a Dell E510 (Intel chip set). I setup the USB option when I connected the 2011 ext HD.

I use a Roland SC88 ext module as a sound source.

Now, I turned off the User Account Control. Rebooted. The very same error message happens!

What now.

Thanks for you help.

I think its time for you to take this one directly to pgmusic support.

There are several ways to do that, email, tollfree hotline or the live chat.

Try it using something other than the Roland and/or DXI and see if you still have the problem. I get it when using DXI, but only sometimes. Never have had it when using the MS GS wavetable synth.
Good luck.

Win Vista HP, AMD dual core @2.7ghz, 2gb ram, running from the internal hard drive.

Do not have the VSC AND the Dxi Selected. Or either..

I think I remember that I didn't use a particular midi driver but it was checked somewhere.

I'm fishing for something I remember but something about ensuring that the midi devices are the same in the O/S and in Band in a Box and the Dxi being properly released...

I had that problem on Vista but it went away on Win7
