I originally ran BIAB from my computer hard drive installed with the discs. I upgraded to the external haard drive. After lots of work I now need to clear up space on my laptop. BIAB is still installed via the disc version on my laptop. Can I uninstall it off my C drive and just run from the external hard drive?

Short answer is yes. Now if you have 2010.5 with all RTs installed your RTs folder at present is around 100GB. If you buy 2011 because of the new system this folder will be reduced to around 27 GB. I used to have to have my songs on an external drive now I have it all on the internal drive.

Just rememeber that if you have self made styles etc in the bb folder they will be lost. If you get 2011 and install it over the other version all will be well. What version do you have? are you upgrading to 2011/

I'm pretty sure it is 2010.5. I looked at the 2011 but not ready to spend more $ just yet

Joe, yes, you can run the program completely from the external drive.
Since you have a laptop, there is a good chance the external drive is a faster RPM speed than your internal drive.
There is another solution I use. I kept the program on the boot drive, but moved the RealTracks and RealDrums onto another drive and told the program where to find them in Opt., Preferences, RealTracks and Opt., Preferences, RealDrums. The RealTracks and RealDrums are comparatively much larger than the rest of the files for the program.
About upgrading, keep in mind that the RealTracks in version 2011 take up only about 1/3 the space that the older versions did. That alone might give you the space you need on your laptop, if it's reasonably fast enough to run 2011.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

OK so at this point if you need more space on the internal drive just get rid of everything and run it from the HD.

By the way, I noticed your saying that the only band you will ever play in is RealBand. I have tried to us that and have not yet succeeded in even loading a song. Everytime I try to work with it the computer crashes. BIAB works great. Suggestions? and also , thanks a bunch for visiting with me.

Yep I will dump the laptop installation. I am kinda a prolific writer and really seem to pile stuff up. Not sure whether it is good stuff or bad stuff...I guess beauty is in the ear of the beholder!

Hi Joe,
There is a great option that I use when BiaB releases a new version.
This method KEEPS all your songfiles you have intact, does not take up very much space on the internal hard drive and has always worked well for me.
*leave your original older BB folder intact.
*Connect the new BB USB Hard Drive.
*Read the Readme file on there about how to install the programs, BB and RB, to your internal drive.
*You will have a chance to specify whether or not to also install the RealDrums and RealTracks to the internal drive as well, don't do that, just install the two programs plus the DX effects, fonts and soft synth if needed.
*install them to your old BB folder, riht overtop of whatever is there.
*The new versions will install, but they will NOT overwrite any of your songfiles, custom styles, etc.
*You will also retain any User Settings that you like from the old version.
*After the installer is done, open BiaB and then open the RealDrums Control Panel and use the Browse feature there to point the RealDrums finder to the external USB drive and the RealDrums stored there.
*Do the same with RealTracks, from the RealTracks control panel.
Now you can test the situation.
If all runs well, you can use Explorer to go into the BB folder, locate the Realtracks folder and delete it and all of its lare file contents.
Do the same with the RealTracks folder.
BiaB and RB will be installed onto the internal hard drive, not a large amount of data and they will be in a situation where things may run a tad better running from there.
To use the Realdrums/Realtracks, just make sure that your USB drive is connected to the same USB port on the com[puter as before and is recognized as the same drifve letter by the Operating System.
**I've done the version upgrades like this for over ten years, installing the new right overtop of the old in the same folder, and have never lost a single songfile or custom style or user setting or any addon that was a one-time bonus purchase. It is always all still there.
