I did report this to support and here is the answer.

notes. If you transpose the pattern in your style up an octave (Pattern |
Transpose Pattern), then it starts to play normally (except for an octave
higher of course). That way you can have the "Voice Leading" set to
"transpose" rather than "riff based". "riff based" would cause the pattern
to play incorrectly over different chord types.

With the style playing an octave higher than desired, you can counter this
by going to Opt. | Preferences | Channels and setting the Piano "Octave"
setting to -1.
