+1 on the Lenovo. I don't own one but, just like you, I've been researching some and to the best that I can find out the Lenovo looks like great bang for the buck value. My current desktop is a 1.8 intel duo, with 3meg and XP SP3, and it gets the job done. As near as I can find out, one of the main reasons it gets the job done is because it's a duo and can handle threads more efficiently. Your new Lenovo should be much faster than my desktop because it has a faster processor and faster memory. The four meg should be plenty for what you're using it for--same goes for the 5400 HD. I say go for it.

Don't know about the bus adapter, but that looks like a good price.

Later,
Jim

I've been running a Lenovo laptop for the past four years. Just recently it had an issue with the cable from the motherboard to the screen.
I took it to my local repair shop and the guy said "I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that Lenovos hardly ever break down. The bad news is that, because they hardly ever break down, it's almost impossible to find spare parts for them."

I started using IBM ThinkPads back in 2002, I have 7 ThinkPads althogether. I have 3 on stage, 3 in my office and one on Leilani's desk.

I've got a Lenovo/IBM transition model that broke once under warranty and was fixed for no charge (screen issue). I have another that the CMOS battery finally died on (replacement was $5.00 and I've since put into semi-retirement because the single core, Pentium III computer is just too slow by today's standards.

But they are all still running.

Not bad for 7 computers over the course of 8 years.

If the Idea Pads are as rugged as the ThinkPads, I think you'll be happy.

That does seem like a good price and BTW, that eSata connector is what really seems intriguing to me - lots of external hard drives available with eSata connectors. This is like having an external bus just for hard drives. Program goes on the lappy, recordings go on the external drive - I like it!

Trigger pulled on this. Too many good features to pass up & the price was right. It'll be my song creation computer as well as my live back up machine. The Toshiba will still stay as the primary live computer as it's built like a tank.
Win7x64 here we go.The good thing is this will not see the internet so I'll totally disable the UAC.

I will be interested in hearing if:
1. The port adapter works as promised
and
2. If you can get the drivers to work under Windows 7 64 bit.

Gary

I will also be interested as well. All the reviews are positive. The adapter is plug &p play with Win 7x64.
The Audigy drivers are not BUT I don't use Audigy drivers I use KX drivers and they ARE supported in Win7x64.

All indications are it SHOULD be fine. Worth the shot for $24. I can always send it back cause it says "all Cards"

John,

Like others on the forum I have been using a Lenovo/IBM for 7 years or so with no issues what so ever. Other than the old girl's limitations lack of speed and memory, due to age alone . . . which by the way Mac showed me how to get into it's brain and fool it into thinking it had more memory, the machine has been and still is a champ! Rugged and trustworthy after traveling to hundred's of gigs in the equipment trailer over the years. Regarding the model you provided the link for, I like the machine and the price so much you may have just sold another one to me. Maybe I'll give the old girl a rest in a back up roll to this new one.

Keep us posted on how it works out.

**** Edited Portion **** Just curious why the need of "Card bus adapter"?

Yea Danny the price for this is extremely good. The features as far as ports etc far out-way any other of the pricier machines. My friend has a Turion II and it's really very fast with BIAB. The SATA port is awesome & for me the almost unheard of Express Slot which leads to your Question.
I use an Audigy 2 ZS Notebook Card at present. It's a standard Type II 32 bit PCMCIA PC Card. I don't use the Creative drivers though. I use KX drivers. The KX drivers give me 8 separate outs from RB to my mixer as well as lets me use the card as a reverb unit.Very powerful. I wanted to continue this way. The closest thing to it is M-Audio's USB 8x8 with built in reverb. Very nice BUT $500.

John,

Thanks for the quick response and for the answer to my question as I was concerned that some sort of PC Card "had" to be used to run BIAB live, as that is just what I would do with this computer. So as long as I can plug in the 1/8 jack into the headphone and run it through my mixer/PA like I do with the old Lenovo I am set.

Merry Christmas,

Danny,
You should get one of these before they're gone at this price with free ship.
I'll have hoops to jump through and it just may not work. If I have to revert to just stereo I will.

Delivery on Dec 24. I do hope everything works out with the PCMCIA adapter and KX.
I'm thinking of getting an eSATA enclosure to put the PG hard drive into. That'll leave the internal drive for songs.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
