Hello All,
I am new to RealBand. Although I have used BIAB for the last year or so and am fairly proficient with the basics. I am not sure how to begin using RB. I have a new Presonus Audiobox USB. It came with Presonus Studio One software which I do NOT want to use. I prefer to use Realband because I believe one of the neat things about RB is that I can record a guitar track(s) on top of chord progressions created with BIAB.

I am using Win7 operating system. I cannot locate the drivers that came with Presonus Audiobox USB/Studio One on my computer, although I know they are there. Studio One itself does not exist in my regristry. But that is another story, I have been in contact with Personu Tech support and after a few weeks just gave up with them.

I can download current Presonus Audiobox USB Win7 drivers from the internet. After that I am not sure what to do next.

Is there an online video or information booklet or online info that will tell me how to setup my computer, audiobox etc to use with RB?

Or if someone here would be kind enough to help me get started I would be very thankful.

Thanks.............
Gregg

Hi Gregg,

I don't have Win7, but I have the Audiobox USB and am using it with Realband under Win Vista32. If I were you I would just re-download the correct driver from the Presonus website, but make sure you download the correct driver for your version of Win7 that you have (either 32-bit or 64-bit). The download will be in the form of a zipped folder.

This is what I did in Vista: First of all, make sure the Audiobox is NOT plugged into your computer via usb at this point. Download the zip folder from the Presonus website to your desktop (name of zipped folder will be Presonus AudioboxUSB...), then right-click on this zip folder and select "Extract All". This will extract the necessary files into another folder on your desktop with the same name. Left-Double-click on this folder, then double-click on the next folder (with the same name) shown, and you will see a series of files. Double-click on the file "setup.exe", and just follow the step-by-step instructions. It will tell you when to plug in the device, then it will ask you to temporarily unplug it again. Just keep following the steps until it tells you the driver has been successfully installed. Hopefully this will all work satisfactorily for you in Win7.

My experience with trying to install it in Vista was a nightmare, but I attribute that mostly to Vista because I was able to install it flawlessly on a netbook running XP. And like you, I found the tech support at Presonus to be a complete waste of time (2 weeks) and totally useless; I eventually had to figure out a solution on my own (another good reason to use Realband as your DAW instead of Studio One - there's a ton of good support from both PG Music and the good people on this forum). With Vista I ended up having to forgo the use of the Presonus driver designed expressly for Vista and was in the end able to get the Audiobox to work with a generic usb driver in Windows. Hopefully you will find the driver experience in Win7 to be more like it was for me with XP - flawless.

Once the driver is installed, start Realband and it should automatically detect the Audiobox driver. You can then click on the Audio Driver icon in Realband and you should see the Presonus Audiobox driver listed as one of the selections. Highlight it on both the input and output side (if you plan on monitoring from the Audiobox also), click ok, and you should be set to go.

Let us know how you fare with the Audiobox.

Terry

Terry:

I can't thank you enough for your reply to my questions. I am going to download the latest drivers as you recommended and start from there.

I have a Realtek soundcard but am wondering what Asio4All is ? Is this some type of audio software I need to get this thing working ?

Again, many thanks..........

ASIO4All is a generic ASIO-type driver that works with a lot of cards. That said, if there isn't a working windows driver on the system, it may not work to well as a solution. Often it works best as a pseudo ASIO driver for devices that either do not have native ASIO drivers (but do supply windows drivers) or sometimes works with less overhead than the manufacturer supplied ASIO driver.

ASIO, just so you know, is only needed in certain instances for certain features; many users have no need for ASIO vs MME (WDM) drivers. So don't assume ASIO is better. It has its trade-offs. ASIO will not make your Realtek sound any better. It will not make any soundcard sound better. It simply allows some features that require a lot of system speed (and therefore system resources)

Please let us know how the Audiobox ends up.

PreSonus support smells like dirty socks with Limburger(sp?)cheese stuffed inside. You can get help on the forums, but I have had similar bad support issues with my FireBox from them. Also, with that version of Studio One, they disabled the ability to use VST/VSTi if I recall. Confirmed just now. In order to get any non-native plugin support, you have to buy the 'Pro' version. Ridiculous.

That's great Gregg.

Could you append a post and let others know what you did in order to make it work for you?

That could be helpful to anyone else searching this forum for an answer to the same problem.

Great idea..sorry i didn't think of that my self.

From the Presonus site I downloaded the 64 bit Win7 drivers. I then ran the driver (.exe) program which installled the drivers on my computer.
I started up RealBand and RB took care of the rest. I did have to tell RB to use the Presonus audiobox as my input source. I did not use any ASIO drivers.

hopes this helps someone...

Thanks again
Gregg

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
