I see in a lot of the demos that there are some very complicated chord choices (i.e. Em7b5, C#m7b5) used for the progressions. However, in most songbooks I've looked at over the years, I don't think I've ever seen so many variations. My question is are these just to show the software can do it if required or I am missing some fundamental approach to songwriting?

Thanks.

A half diminished chord occurs naturally as a vii7 chord in major. It's really only a 7th chord - a triad with a 7th added.

A ii7 - V7 progression in C major would be Dm7, G7, C

in C minor it would be Dm7-5, G7, Cm ... really quite basic when you think of it.
