I'm a Mac user and run Parellels and Windows and use BIAB for Windows, while it's okay there are a couple of issues that bug me about it. I don't want to switch to the Mac version of BIAB as there is no RB for Mac. Coles supermarket chain are selling Acer EM 250 Net Books for $389 AU and I was toying with buying one specifically to run BIAB/Real Band. There are a couple of Net Book brands around of similar specs. The specs for the Acer are:

10.1" LED screen. Wireless connections. Integrated webcam. Multi-in-1 card reader. Weight 1.1kg. Microsoft Windows XP (home). 160GB hard drive disc. 1GB RAM. Intel Atom processor 1.6GHz. 1 year warranty.

I was wondering if any forum members have any experience with this machine or any Net Book for that matter. Particularly interested in thoughts on how successful it would be running BIAB.

Just about every report of users that have bought *any* of the Intel Atom netbooks made by any manuifacturer have resulted in good reports as to working with BiaB. This forum and the Off Topic forum have entries in it somewhere that reflect that.

Especially consider using the outrigger USB drive with it and BiaB, for the internal drives don't tout all that much capacity. 160gb might be just enough room for OS and BB with RealTracks, but I doubt there would be much left over in the way of freespace. Not a kill, the reports of netbooks and the USB drive BiaB have all been good also.

I have one, it's amazing. I put it in my camera bag, backpack, and took it to Cuba. It sits beside my easy chair. My main system is an HP media deal with 10 gigs of memory Vista and 1 tb hd. I do most of my work on that in the 'studio' downstairs. Upstairs I have an acoustic piano and a standard Bose radio CD player. I put the acer on the piano and run band in a box from an external hd. and use the Dxi software synth and have no issues other than about 4 or 5 seconds longer to generate a song, or bit more if it's all RealTracks. I find a laptop too big anymore, and do 90 percent of my stuff on the wee thing. I do have Ubuntu on my laptop on my big screen TV but the Acer is faster to work with, don't need to pull the wireless keyboard and mouse out...and well, just take care of it and you sure get your money's worth. If I put a buck in a jar for every hour I've used it there be thousands in there...

I have the dell mini with Atom chip and BIAB works BUT seems nothing allways works the way its supposed to. My most recent problem is i have been using a Yamaha MIDI UX16 single midi interface for years on other systems. I downloaded the driver for this to install on the mini and get an error message that the driver is NOT compatable with this chip. Looks like if I want to be able to record ar play an external keyboard of anykind I will have to purchase a new midi interface.

Well, the UX16 IS a bit long in the tooth as computer periphals go.

New USB MIDI connects are very inexpensive, time to get one.

Yes, I also have found that the "Class Compliant" USB to MIDI stuff seems to work very well indeed as vs the stuff that requires installation of proprietary drivers.

OK, if I wanted to be able to hook up two keyboards at once the axiom 25 to send and the Yamaha psr 740 to send and recieve what would I need? 1 in/2 out? If I also wanted to receive on my mp32 and my tx7 at the same time would a 1 in/4 out be what I'm looking for?
