I would like to know if anyone would advise me / comment about this sound card that I'm thinking of buying. It would replace my system's integrated sound card. In previous posts it's been suggest to me that perhaps the integrated sound wouldn't be best for my use recording and performing and that I purchase a higher-end one.

Later I also seen where another user had been using this but I lost the post location.

This is an external sound card and evidently would provide me with several 'outside' connections.

Edirol UA-25EX 24Bit/96kHz USB Audio Interface

See additional info about it here!

The '25 can replace the internal soundcard.

However, now that I know the *reason* concerning your internal soundcard problem, that the thing took a lightning hit, I cannot say if things would work as they are supposed to on that system or not. Nobody really can tell you about that.

At any rate, I'd disable the internal soundcard in the BIOS first, before installing any other sound device. That *may* help, but be advised that is lightning took out something in the hardware of the soundcard, there is a good chance that it has crippled other devices on the motherboard and it is just about impossible to say what they may be, or what impact that could have on attempting to record audio and MIDI over the long run. This can be trying enough to accomplish when everything is in the pristine and known to be working.

Mac - How did you deduct the 'reason'? I'm out in left field here on that.

Before selecting a soundcard replacement I would ask 'which OS it is intended for' ? That can be a key. 32 or 64 bit?
Then research issues with that combination.
Remember you hear a lot more bad than good! Just the fact that people ask for help (more than post to say things are great) attests to that.

Check the device support area for any new drivers before making a decision. Checking later will yield varying results. Many complaints from six months ago may have been addressed with recent driver updates. This is a transitional time for music hardware.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Mac,

I wasn't the guy having a problem with the lightning hit ... I was the guy who gave him a suggestion that he remove the card from his PC.

No, I have a new Gateway PC and I've had a post here and there on the forum regarding recording and the like and there have been a few that have suggested that I ditch the Realtech integrated sound card in my PC and opt for a newer high-end card.

Sorry for the confusion.

I'm using Win7 64-bit.
(yes, I've been researching for a few days now)
I've only heard one other person on this forum with it and he raves about it. that's why i decided to start a new post about it -- just one person who has it -- no go yet.
other than that, i've only got 6 other users - via amazon - they love it too.

squeemish, but i sure like the idea of an external, portable sound interface. i seem to change pc's often enough that the 'portability' is appealing to me.

I wouldn't bother with an external usb audio interface for output only apps - the real value is the input options you get and the portability. Edirol makes good stuff, and although I have never used this interface, I would suspect it will work great with the proper drivers for your OS. It is a reputable company and looks like it will be around for the long haul. Anyway, you really can't compare a built-in sound card intended mostly for output to an external usb audio interface mostly intended for input. The usb will be so much better.
Good luck.

I have the Yamaha AudioGram 6 here. It connects via USB and I love it. I am using it with Vista 32 here w/o any problems. Check the AudioGram website to see if they have drivers for Win7 64 though. The 6 comes with two mic XLR inputs and 4 mono 1/4 trs inputs. It also comes with a compressor for each input.

Focusrite Saffire LE firewire external soundcard here. Works really well with Vista 32bit - sound is really excellent, with excellent preamps. It replaced an internal/external M-Audio Delta 66 - also excellent - but it had no physical gain / volume controls, only software ones, and when the Saffire came cheap (as it was being replaced by the manufacturer) the Delta had to go.

If you are looking just for a USB sound card to replace a poor quality internal one and aren't too bothered about only having phono ins/outs, I heartily recommend the Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202 - it sounds absolutely first class as a laptop soundcard replacement. I use it with my laptop to stream i-Tunes tracks from my office PC via wifi to my main hi-fi in the lounge. It costs about $30!

I am running BAIB 2010 on my 5-year old Sony S460 Windows 7 which is just fine, except for the fans which are pretty loud.

Recently upgraded the onboard soundcard to SB Audigy 2 ZS PCMCI and cannot be happier. It just needs the right drivers and apps to be running perfectly in Windows 7. It produces optical output (24-bit/48 kHz) to my receiver. There is a option to run an encoder to make BIAB sound in DTS or Dolby Digital for 5 bucks, but I prefer stereo, just sounds more natural and cleaner.

Another thing... I would highly recommend "Hypersonic 2" as a synth sampler. After everything else I tried, it is so far the best for me. I was thinking of getting the Ketron SD2 midi module earlier(well... still am.. sometimes), but Hypersonic just does everything, and after getting familiar with its banks, combis and patches, it is far more powerful than it may look like at first. The advanced tool in a simple interface. Try it out and hear the difference. I am not affiliated with the company, besides the product is discontinued anyway...

Just my .02 cents...
