In case the work around doesn't work to keep the fastrack pro working w/biab, what are some good ones in the under 150 price range? I don't need lots of fancy I/O but the Lexicon Lambda looks like a good box from the specs. It only goes to 48 khz but that's plenty for me. Anyone using the Lexicon Lambda or Omega?

BTW the work around to loose the distortion, crackling and mild static sounds is lower the screen rez. This time around we also lowered the buffer setting in the maudio software within biab to 1024. The noise is gone. But this is the pc world anything can happen if the barometer changes or I don't hold my mouth right.

If lowering the screen resolution worked to lower the amount of crackling and distortion, I'd be looking at the VIDEO first, not the soundcard.

Might be a simple task of going to the mfr's website for your video and downloading the latest video drivers and installing them, not an uncommon thing to have to do.

Might also be the IRQ table in your computer is *sharing* the USB port where you have the M-Audio attached with the Video card, a vey undesirable situation that may not have a solve these days.

Try the video driver thing first though.

**Also make sure that your sound device is UNLOCKED in its control panel, as having it set to something other than 16/44.1, BiaB's native setting, can force some soundcards to have to do SRC on the fly, which chews up bandwidth and timing issues can result. If your soundcard's control panel does not have an UNLOCKED setting, which allows for the host program to be able to set the soundcard to its bitrate, then set the Control Panel hard to 16/44.1 and experiment like that.

Another sound device may or may not solve this problem. I have a good friend who is using the fasttrack pro with a toshiba laptop and, after getting a few OS settings right - and downloading and isntalling a few new Drivers for the laptop, everything is running well with BiaB and RealBand for him.

Granted I have a wacky setup but the Video plays a big part of whether I have issues or not. I run multi outs with my card.In RB my screen is set up to display part of the chord sheet, part of the tracks view & part of the comments screen.I found out ,and it's consistent, that if the track view changes screen & the chord sheet change screen at the same time it'll throw the soundcard's outputs out of sync.I was able to solve this by disabling the network card.I've now created a new HW Profile with all the stuff I don't need disabled.
I miss this, HW Profiles, on my Win7x64 lappy. The Win 7 machine seems fine though. A whole lot more horse power.

Mac, John. Thanks very much for the advice. I would not have considered any of these options and I'd dearly love not buying another interface. It's been a very long time since the horror of irc conflicts reared it' ugly head. I've been to device manager several times today and not seen any indication of conflicts in the first level. Would conflicts still show up in the first level where all the devices are listed. Things may have changed since I ran screaming from all this sort of stuff to a mac 16 years ago. My mac is old enough by a year or two to have been bypassed by new audiophile code. So here I am. But with this quality of help from you guys I think it could much less frustrating. You guys and this forum are the cat's meow. Hope the rest of your day is smooth.
