Cleaning deitrus from my wimpy sized HD.
This is listed in my C: drives 'add/remove' programs list: Band_in_ a_Box Server......12,973.00MB
BIAB & PTPro are installed on a separate HD.
Is this whopper sized program needed for all functions of biab?
Support info for this leads me to rndigital.org or to the support page here in PGmusic where I've not gotten the answer to: can I remove it using control panel safely?

The bb server file is tiny. Windows must be messing up, and referring to the installer, not that bb server file.

1:52 AM? Mr. Gannon, Sir, that's dedication to your product. Or too many Mochas  ) So, I'm going to click on the 'remove' button and see what happens if I can be assured of a replacement if I hose access to the wonderfullness of BIAB.

Yeah, 1.2 gigs is the size of the regular Biab install. I have the same thing on my C drive even though lately I run it off the PG external drive. The reason I haven't yet deleted it off the C drive is I have some extras I've bought over the years that are not included on the external like some soloists and other things I can't remember now. I did copy the soloists to the external but I know there's other stuff too and I have to figure that out before I dump this machine. I'm building a new Win 7 box now.

On my computer at, > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs it also lists the largest program as Band in a Box server at 6,587.00 MB
I did a search for band in a box server and it found it at c:\bb\BBhelper and it was listed as an application, size: 1,021 KB
BIAB 2011, build 313
Using XP, sp3
What might be causing this?

Hi,
On Windows XP, that is an (incorrect) automatic estimation of the program size done by Windows. Windows 7 doesn't have this issue. We'll see if there is a way we can fix it.

I can confirm that on my Windows 7 64bit system the size is 1.66Mb

I dont think that is actual size of the program at all.
It is just that Windows XP is *wrong* in the size report and the actual program is indeed MUCH SMALLER than that.
So I wouldn't sweat it, nor remove it.

Hello. I had posted the same question in yahoo groups/biab and was guided to the 'what's new' and informed that the biab server is used to transfer songs/files back and forth to an i-pod/cell phone type portable device which I don't own, so I removed that thru control panel and have lost no functions (so far).

While it is true that Band-in-a-Box Server is only needed for the iPhone app, it (c:\bb\bbhelper\BandInABoxServer.exe) isn't a 12GB file, it is a single file that is 1MB in size. So likely Windows has messed up, calling the entire installation "BB Server". Anyway, if removing that hasn't removed your BB directory, then it likely is the installer that it has removed, and you should be fine.
