About 10 years or so ago, I had software called "In Concert", by Cakewalk. This software allowed me to play along to pre-recorded songs on my MIDI keyboard. I would play the melody, while "In Concert" would get the cadence and tempo from my MIDI input. In other words, if I slowed down, it slowed down with me. If I sped up, it sped up with me. If I stopped playing altogether, it stopped.
Does Band in a Box have this capability? If so, where is it found?
Note: I've just received shipment of my Band in a Box, so haven't played around with it yet. I was just curious as to whether it has this type of capability.
Thanks.
Kawai VPC1 MIDI Controller; Asus A53E Laptop running Windows 7 - 64 bit; BIAB 2017 UltraPlusPak (upgraded from 2014 EverythingPak), running from Laptop's Hard Drive.

While BiaB doesn't have that ability, you can hit the PLAY button and BB will play back any songfile in Tempo you assign and you can play along with that.

Thanks, Mac. That's pretty much what I thought, but figured I'd ask.
My problem is that I usually can't play well enough to keep up with the tempo I prefer! 8-) Having a "Band" follow my inconsistencies with Tempo would be empowering!

It might be empowering, but it seems like a good way to learn bad tempo habits. It might be better to play at the speed where you can be ~100% accurate and then slowly speed up. Practicing mistakes only allows you to get better at making mistakes.

Everyone with a good ear makes mistakes. Good players don't keep doing it, and tempo is no excuse. I have played keyboards for over 55 years, and I never slowed down very often. There are some runs written that you might need to mess with, but I'm doing jazz. Jazz can take the missed phrase, dropped note and flatted 7th. So? The best part about this software is the ability to find material to play along with, and relieve you of the tedium of doing everything else on your own.

+1
May seem nice to you, but it is a recipe for practicing doing things the wrong way -- and thus would result in only reinforcing the wrong thing to do.
Instead, I recommend starting out at a lower Tempo, one that you can comfortably work with and use that Tempo in repetition for whatever amount of time it takes to be able to gradually speed the Tempo up and make it through without hesitations or errors.

Wouldn't that sort of be like telling a metronome not to be so steady?

Right - and self-defeating.

If practice isn't fun you won't do it. People on here are not 8 years old. Adults learn in a completely different manner.
The best thing about Band in a box is you don't have to sit there messing with a metronome doing Hannon exercises at a tempo someone else dictated.
I've listened to classicly trained musicians, (a lot of them), who can quit on measure 3 and go over and over it, get it right, and then keep going. I HATE THAT. My wife knows it too!
The woodshed feature may be your best friend. I'd shoot for 4 or 5 times through before you give it heck.

I have the In Concert program, and the answer is no. BiaB does not do that.

The cited "In Concert" feature is technologically obviously quite feasible and offered by other serious educational program concepts such as SmartMusic.
I strongly believe it would - as an option - provide a terrific asset with one of the next 50 something BB features.
