Actually, I'm not a newby, I'm just getting around to getting acquainted with MegaPak 2013. Some basic, and not so basic questions that the nice lady (Pauline) in support couldn't answer.

As my Signature displays, I have an Alesis I/O26 F'wire interface with an Alesis Fusion8HD keybd. The ASIO driver works fine on Sonar when it's driving my Fusion8HD, but I'm not getting anything in BIAB, or RB.

Also, how does the LSB, and MSB work in RB? I've played with it on my keybd using RB, I've read the BIAB manual, I've even gone to the GM website and read it's definitions, and examples. Call me thick-headed, but I'm really trying to understand it. Why is it that Sonar works FINE with just Bank, and Program. I'm not understanding which (LSB/MSB) changes what. I don't want to have to divide a bunch of numbers everytime I change a patch either. It appears both variables are bank mgmt tools, and that's what's confusing.

Thanks,
KC

Welcome back, KC.

I don't use the Bank and LSB entries on the chordsheet. Do you have a patch map for your Fusion8HD? If you do, then to change patches, you click on an instrument radio button then click on the little + (plus sign) and select the patch there. If you haven't loaded a patch map, it will first tell you that and prompt you to load one.

If you do not have a patch map, then there is a web page on this site. Write back and we'll help. There is even a converter from your SONAR .INS instrument (patch) map if needed.

EDIT. OK, it looks like there is no similar Alesis patch map on the PG Music site for that model. Here is the page: http://www.pgmusic.com/support_miscellaneous.htm

So, we would need to convert your SONAR .INS file to make one. It's the GM menu, Convert patch list from Cakewalk. Before you do that, however, let's see if anyone else here may have already done it.

Hi KC,

Attempts to use ASIO drivers in two different programs at the same time can cause that.

There is a setting in the BB Audio window, "ASIO Always On" that defaults to true. Try unchecking that to see if your ASIO drivers might work with two audio programs at at the same time. This does not work with all ASIO drivers, however, and also depends on how the other audio program tries to handle ASIO.

The surefire way to handle this problem is to set BB to use MME sound drivers while using ASIO with the other program.

could this be worth a try here if mac's suggestion doesn't work

unofficial ASIO multiclient application http://www.steinberg.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=48

this is an excerpt from the readme:
"[...] ASIO (Audio Streaming Input Output) is a technology of Steinberg.
It allows for low latencies and pretty much every state-of-the-art audio device is nowadays delivered with an ASIO driver (on Windows, at least). However, the basic idea behind ASIO is
that professional audio applications entirely take ownership of the ASIO device. Only very few ASIO drivers support true multiple application access.
This effectively means that you can not use 2 or more applications using the same ASIO device at the same time.

The ASIO Multiclient wrapper overcomes this problem by providing a 'proxy' ASIO driver (the ASIO client), several of which can connect to the one ASIO Server, which in turn
'speaks' to the target ASIO device (driver). The server mixes the output streams of all applications, and provides that mix to the target device. [...]"

Thanks Guys,

I downloaded the multiclient, but actually, I don't think that was the issue. I actually began to get sound out of my ext keyboard. However, setting up my customized .PAT file may be more trouble than it's worth. So, I might just settle for setting up a couple of SampleTank templates. That way I can also force MIDI channels.

My immediate problem now seems to be getting the DAW plugin to work. As I expressed in another thread, it generates, and drops WAV files just fine, but it WILL NOT generate MIDI files. It SAYS it's a MIDI file in the name of the file, but it's a WAV file. Also, it gives me an error telling me I need to PLAY the file in order to generate it, but it still only generates a WAV file.

So, I also tried exporting it as a MIDI file, but that doesn't work either. Even though, it generates a MIDI file, and I chose the Type that extracts into separate tracks, when I open it in Sonar it has separate tracks, but only 1(ONE) track has all the data.

Any Hep?

If we are still talking about SONAR, you can just open both BIAB and SONAR windows and drag each MIDI track from BIAB into SONAR. You don't even need to be in DAW Plugin Mode in BIAB, though you can be.

A song in BIAB must be Played once so that the MIDI tracks are generated.

Does that help?

And, do you have DXi checked ON, by any chance?
