I want to record a 2 hour radio program that is streamed through the internet and was wondering if I can use RB to do that. I could simply use an external recording device plugged into the speaker jack but I would prefer if to do it through RB if possible.
Any advice on whether or not this is possible would be appreciated.
Cheers, andy

Depends on OS and soundcard.. Vista- probably disabled the function. XP should be doable. Any soundcard with 'srereo mix' or 'monitor mixer' available as an input should be able to accomplish it.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Andy,
You needn't use RB, although it will probably do it. What you need to do is to set your systems recording properties to "What You Hear". This is usually accessed by either right-clicking on the speaker icon, or sometimes double clicking on it. Once you have "What You Hear" set, the computer will record what is channeled to the speakers. Windows sound recorder will then do the job. There are also a number of free audio programs around that will work, too (if you want something dressier).

Creative cards call it, "What U Hear" in their mixer.
Other cards may call this different things.
For instance, some built in soundcards call it, "Stereo Mix".
Others may call it "Direct Monitoring".
It is good to be able to do it this way, rather than running a physical audio cable from line out back to line input because it will stay in the digital domain when using the above method, but must pass through a needless iteration of D to A and then A to D to get back into the soundcard, which will create more noise and distortion than the direct digital recording.
RealBand would be overkill for such a purpose, although it would indeed be capable. I recommend trying the free Audacity program for what you describe, it is likely to be a lot more simple to use and straightforward for you.

Despite the advice I couldn't work out how to do it - ended up recording it to an external device with an average result. I'd like to set up this function for future reference. any advice where i might find some literature on it?

Mac, thanks for the offer. excuse my ignorance but I'm not sure how to determine the type and model sound card I have. Is there somewhere I can access that will tell me this? My OS is a Mac using XP service pack 3. any suggestions?

Are you running Parallels, Bootcamp or one of those?
That would be the only way I guess you'd be running XP on a Mac.
If a Mac, then you will likely have to wait for someone whose using a Mac and Realband to come along to tell you the particulars involved.
