I have a dell xps i7 which I love. It has 4 gigs of ram. Will upgrading to 8g of ram make load times any faster? Right now RT songs load anywhere from 4 to 6 seconds. I know that's pretty fast but on gigs I'd like it to be as close to immediate as possible. I don't want to freeze tracks because I like the variation every time the songs are played.

It will only help if you are running a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit version of Windows. Otherwise, the operating system only makes available the first 3+ of that 4 GB, and installing additional RAM is a waste. In addition, even assuming you are running in a 64-bit environment, then BIAB still can't address more than 3+ of that 4 GB because it's a 32-bit program.
So, bottom line, No.
Question: when you say the RT songs load in 4 to 6 seconds, do you mean the song regenerates in that time? That's not bad performance.

Especially if that includes a RealTracks soloist in there.

Generation time also depends on the overall length of the song, but for a 'standard length' of 3 minutes or so, that's pretty good in my view also.

Jakob,
Sorry I did not read all the replies above but in case it was missed, frozen RT load faster than generating RTs. Of course 4 - 6 seconds is pretty darn quick, come on man slow down and enjoy the ride. :>

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I do have a 64 bit laptop but is biab operating in 64 bit or 32? A: BiaB is always running as a 32 bit application, even on a 64 bit operating system.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I do have a 64 bit laptop but is biab operating in 64 bit or 32? As VideoTrack and I said, BIAB is a 32-bit program only. In case there is any question, your laptop could have a 64-bit processor running either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows. Chances are good if you bought it in the last two years with Windows installed, you do have Windows with the 64-bit version. To be sure, you could go to Control Panel, System where it will say.

all MIDI styles are instant in my machine, but yeah, if you're generating or regenerating a real track or as in Real Band, ALL real tracks, it can take a bit of time.
The way I look at it is... sure beats walking. I mean, like driving at 45 mph to the store..... sure beats walking.
Waiting a few seconds or so for BB or RB to generate a track, sure beats having a player in your studio, setting up the mics, going through the tuning ritual, getting them into a focused state of mind, and all the other stuff that's involved. In a short time.... with BB/RB, you're ready to do whatever is next on the list.
I get so impatient with a 4 minute download on the internet these days, but I remind myself that just 10 years ago that 4 minute DL would have taken 60 minutes or more......
be patient..... it's worth it.
