Just a curious question:
Why does Band in a Box seem to freeze for a few seconds after starting the program. Then, after a flash refresh of the screen and the initial chord letter "C" in the first bar appears larger, the program is ready to be used. One would think if it is searching for something that the status bar would indicate that instead of the rude freeze and flash refresh.
As I said, it is just an oddity I wondered about.

This is part of the startup sequence where it is looking for the setting you have it on,go into Pref and on the lower lefthand side it says"at program bootup" and there are 3 choices- open previous song-open previous style-don`t open song or style, this is the startup, you first have a empty page and then it find one of the three options,i keep mine on open previous song

Okay, I guess that makes sense now that you explained it. I just see that flash and re-build of the page and it can be startling as if the system (my computer that is) just hiccuped. You think it could be made a little less threatening looking.

I've noticed that different choices in soft synths for the BIAB MIDI also determine how much time is spent on that little hiccup, too. Use of hardware MIDI synth shortens the hiccup considerably. At least, it does so here.

I've have been wondering this same thing and have always meant to ask about it.
Especially since I don't remember it happening three versions ago.
It seemed to start with Ver. 2008.

1. Thanks, that helped a lot. It still pauses with a blank screen but it is much quicker now.

I brought this issue up a very long time ago. As you said, one of the choices is "Don't Open Song or Style."
But, in fact, even if selected BiaB still opens with "Jazz Swing Style."
I forgot what Peter's response was at the time but it was basically 'yeah, the wording is wrong.'
I have pointed out a few of those kind of things but I don't see any of them (that I can recall) being corrected.
As I've mentioned before, great program ... but needs a lot of cleaning up. - Mark

Jazz Swing style, as you call it, is simply the default placeholder for the style slot.

Yup, Mac, I know.
I tend to take things very literally at times however.
(Which is a good thing, I think, for computer related stuff.)
To me, "At program bootup ... Don't open ...style" means Don't Open (a) Style.

I think that's what was meant by the "wording is wrong" -- but the reality is that the program evidently MUST have a style to load, it cannot open without any style loaded. At least that's what I gather from the way it apparently works.
It is what it is, and what it does far outshines the little stuff IMO.
