Hi again...
I've been holding off buying the Ketron 2D2 because I know that there just has to be a way of using my JV. If I can't connect to the JV with a USB MIDI converter I'm imagining that it would be the same for the 2D2. It is surely a setting somewhere. Windows installed the driver for the converter and it is supposed to be working properly. When I press a key on the controller the little light on the converter flashes so I KNOW that the signal is getting through... but it isn't going into the JV. I can't seem to find the usb controller OR the USB MIDI converter in the sounds and audio device settings. I know that there is NOTHING muted in the system mixer.
I've come so close to ordering the 2D2 over the past few days but I keep thinking about all the great sounds the JV has and am wondering if I should really put out the money for a new one. If I DID get it would I still have the same problem getting it to work? Something in the settings?

What host program are you trying to use?
The USB to MIDI won't work all by itself with just the OS, you need a host program to route from the controller to the synth thru the PC.
If you just want to play the synth then hook the out of the controller to the in of the synth and the synth's audio output to the line in on your soundcard. Or use a host program that can route the MIDI thru.

Thanks for the reply, Mac.
Yep... I've tried the direct connection between the controller and the synth and it works well... but I can't record it in Real Band... or can I?
Host program... wouldn't that be Real Band?

Bobby,
#1. Make sure that the MIDI Out from the controller goes to the MIDI IN of the MIDI Interface.
#2. Make sure the MIDI Out from the Interface goes to the MIDI In of the JV1010.
(Some interfaces, like the M-Audio Uno seem to be reversed, so if after making sure that everything I tell you that follows is correct, and it still doesn't work, switch the cables)
#3 Open Real Band
#4. Go the MIDI Driver icon on the Menu bar and open it. You'll see your MIDI interface, probably along with a few other things in the Input, and Output sides.
#5. Select your MIDI inteface on both sides, so that only the interface is highlighted.
#6. Press Move Selected Devices To Top
#7. Check and make sure that the Re-Route MIDI Playback to default DXi/VSTi Synth is NOT checked. Latency should auto adjust. Close the MIDI Driver setup Window.
#8. Click on the Preferences Button on the Menu. Select the 6-MIDI tab.
#9. Click on the MIDI Thru button. Check to make sure Enable Thru is checked, Track Specific is checked.
#10. From the Options Menu, select Show Piano, if you don't already have it showing.
#11. Play something on the controller. The Piano bar should show you the notes you are playing.
At this point, if you do not see the notes playing, switch the cables on the interface.
#12. When you see the notes on the keyboard, you should hear the JV1010 playing.
#13. If you do not hear the JV1010 playing, create a new song, with no data, click on Track 1.
#14. Right click in the Track Configure area, and make sure the Port is set to your midi interface, that the Channel is set to 1, and that the Track Type is MIDI.
If that doesn't help you, I'm not sure what else is going on.
If you can't get it to work, tell me exactly what type of Interface, and what shows up in the MIDI Device Driver dialog window.

I Have the Ketron and the jv1010 daisy chained and both work fine, one all 3 of my computers. None of them, even the one running vista needed any software, the system just recognizes them as midi devices when plugged in.
Make sure you've tried all USB ports. When you plug it in it should show up as a Midi device is the System -->>>Sounds ...
Never plug it in AFTER you have started Band in a Box. Weird stuff can happen plugging or unplugging while band in a box is on.
I move mine often, and using it upstairs on the Acer/XP system, downstairs on the HP/Vista system or out of the house on the Vaio laptop/XP system, all work fine. If it won't work with your system neither will the SD2.

Also make sure the 1010 is turned on BEFORE you open your host program.

Describe what cable you are using..ie USB to 2 midi connectors, name of the UNIT, Mine is Edirol UM1, the darker blue cable goes to my keyboard, the lighter goes to the Ketron. It functions with all midi channels from the software going to the ketron, and the keyboard is going into the software and out to the JV1010 via the thru button at the top of the band in a box stream.
I have also downloaded the patches files from pg's website under support and put the jv1010 and ketron in the bb folder.
The USB device has a green led, it does not flash.
As said earlier I have also daisy chained the ketron to my jv1010. Each has an output back to my mixer, I like some sounds better than others, and I like to experiment.

OK... I think I MAY have found the problem with your help. After reading about how I should see my interface in the MIDI setups - well... I don't see it. When I bought it, it didn't come with any drivers and so when I plugged it into a usb port WinXP installed it's own driver for it. When I look for it in Device Manager it calls it a "USB Audio Device." However, "USB Audio Device" doesn't show up anywhere in the Real Band or BIAB MIDI setup lists. According to what Gary says, I should see my interface in the MIDI Drivers input/output lists. But I don't... it's not there on either side. Someone mentioned that the M-Audio Uno interface comes with drivers? Maybe that's my problem. My interface (USB MIDI converter) is a "Supra MD 100". I've tried looking for it on the Web to see if I could find a driver for it but a Supra MD 100 doesn't show up anywhere when I google it. Perhaps I'm going to have to order a more reputable one - one that COMES with it's own drivers? I should tell you that when I plug in my USB controller - E-MU Xboard 25 - it shows up in the MIDI setup lists. I've tried using it as my input and output device without success... hey... I'm desparate here... heh.
Let me know what you think about the interface driver theory.

Are you looking in the 'Options-midi devices' section and seeing an audio device??
In PGMusic products it should be recognized in the midi devices area... sounds like you are looking in the audio area.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

You can download the drivers for the Uno on the M-Audio website: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Uno.html Take your time, make sure you download the right drivers for your Operating System, follow the directions on how to install to the letter. --Mac

Nope... I tried both drivers... M Audio and Edirol UM1. Before installing them I removed the driver that Windows gives it. I install the new stuff and when finished I plug the interface in only to have Windows reinstall it's own drivers for it. Somehow I think that the only solution is to get a new interface that comes with it's own drivers. Is one better than the other?... M Audio verses Edirol UM1?

I don't think there is a difference either way, Bobby. I recommend the M-Audio because I have one, and it works for me.
Any device like this should have a driver, because Windows needs to know how to address it. Trying drivers for Edirol or M-Audio will not work, because those drivers are written to operate their respective devices. Each device should have a unique driver.
So, I would recommend either the Edirol or the M-Audio, and it will come with a disk that you will need to install to get it to work right. That's why nothing is working for you.
As to the controller keyboard, you may have already loaded drivers for it, or it has a set that auto configures, but you won't get anything out to the JV1010 unless you have some sort of MIDI interface that is recognized from within Real Band.

I have been using the UM-1 for years, since before they belonged to Roland. It is simplicity itself; install and forget. I have long since lost the install disk, so when I need the drivers (such as after I reinstall Windows) I go get them from Roland.
Until I had a dedicated interface for my desktop, I would move the interface back and forth between it and my portable. No problem. (Just not while a given program was running, of course.)

I can vouch for the fact that you need no drivers, wherever they are the o/s finds them.
My wife got the Acer for christmas and I just plugged in the Edirol and it worked. That's XP home edition.
And I plugged it into my new HP with Vista and it worked. Now that is the Edirol 1 in and 1 out, it's a simple midi device and seems to tell that to the USB port in question.
It then shows up in Control panel and inside band in a box once you open the program.
Period.
I have had some problems with other stuff needing to be in the port it was first installed to, but ususally it would be the only thing I stick into the usb.

I just found the drivers on the Roland site and I'm baffled. I would remember downloading them for Vista 64 I think....
If I remember there is 'firmware' in the unit and as it is a standard midi interface it's a matter of ensuring the o/s reroutes the thing.

You may also want to make sure that the USB cable is plugged into the BACK of your computer.

Forgive me if I'm wrong however everyone on this forum knows I can be the doubting Thomas. How appropriate being it's Easter Sunday.
I'm going to copy and paste from some of your other responses;

3. In BIAB-- OPT > MIDI/Audio Driver setup > MIDI in driver = USB( whatever that cable is called) > MIDI out Driver = USB( whatever that cable is called)
4. Is your JV setup in performance mode so that it can play all midi channels (OMNI)
5. Are any lights blinking on the JV

*The M-Audio Uno is Class Compliant in XP, meaning that it does not need the drivers that the company supplies to work. Windows should recognize it immediately when it is plugged in.
*M-Audio does make XP drivers for the device and recommends those for users who want to do more than just connect and send MIDI data to and from the computer, such as heavy use of SYSEX commands and whatnot. The Uno should work right out of the box with pgmusic products, no driver installation needed.
*There must be something different going on somehow with this one situation.
Please list everything you see on the LH Input and RH output side of your pgmusic software's MIDI driver window.

I also forgot to mention.
I told you to hook it up just like you did in the old days with Cakewalk. This was ignored.
In the old days YOU didn't have USB so it would have been hooked up with a MIDI adapter cable to the joystick port of your sound card. That's how MIDI was implemented on cheap cards.
You now have an Audidgy2 card in your computer. It has a joy stick port. Why aren't you using the old joystick>MIDI adapter cable just like the old days.

I've just plugged my Uno into a XP Pro machine, Vista 64 and Win 7 64 machines, and NONE of them recognize the device without a driver.
