Won't likely ever know what it's like because I won't use IE now that I have Mozilla Firefox.

Firefox here too. I only use IE to access Microsoft which won't take other browsers.
There is a touted new feature about 'private' browsing, not leaving any record of sites you visit.

I use both on Vista. I'd prefer Firefox - however that gem maroons me at times, denying any internet connections presenting just a white screen. Can't kill the process via task manager - just stays put unable to connect to the internet. That's when I have the choice -> reboot or switch to IE.
The support pages of Firefox state: "Firefox is known to have problems with some antivirus programs such as Avast. Thus just drop Avast (say)."
That's ridiculous and simply a no go from those Firefox people ...

True, I did notice that on the computer with Avast (which I like), the back button in Firefox sometimes does not work. I have to hit back twice, which goes back two pages, then I go forward one page to where I wanted to be. Annoying.

I was a bit perturbed that the other day when my PC was taking its usual XP security updates that IE8 was included along with the usual string of fixes without some much as a 'do you want this?' Having said that it runs ok, and I have no particular grumbles, but I switched off the new features. I don't want some bot making stupid suggestions like 'if you liked that site you'll also like this one'. Who thinks of this guff? Sometimes the Amazon 'suggestions' are daft enough: 'If you enjoyed The Real Life of Wyatt Earp' you might like 'Teach Yourself Home Childbirth'.

Like you, I switched off some of the 'features'. I was using IE6.......(I had all sorts of problems with IE7).......so far IE8 is faster & has not caused me any trouble. Joe G.

I would be cautious about using IE8. I installed it only to find that I could no longer log in to my work through Citrix. I ended up going back to IE7 so I could work from home if required.
Good luck! LLOYD S

Interesting. I went ahead and opened the Add ons for Firefox and disabled the NET extensions Add On. It isn't possible to uninstall it, from that window, but you can disable it.

Couple more reactions.
John is prophetic, since right after he mentioned it, IE8 was automatically sent to me via Windows Upgrade. Annoying. I would have called this an optional upgrade.
Also, Martin's post about known problems with Firefox caused me to look at the Mozilla site again. They have a new Firefox 3.5 beta 4 version you can try. Gary, it didn't support the NET extensions. It does, however, promise private browsing, one of the marketing features for IE8. So, we go round again...

Someone said IE 6. Lots of webdevelopers are just dropping in code that says..
"Sorry you browser is outdated and this site is will not work, please update your browser to Firefox or Opera."
That to the never ending problems with IE6 and trying to make it work.

I've been using IE8 for about a month without any problems. It is faster, as they tout it to be. However, I had a scare when I first installed it. Man... was it EVER SLOW. I decided that I didn't like it and tried to re-install IE7 but couldn't do it... got the "a newer version has been detected" blah blah message. For some reason I decided to reboot... and things were normal again. I really can't find anything wrong with it.

IE8's been running fine here for almost a week now. Had to turn off the added delightful junk, as already mentioned, matter of fact the new installer allows you to pick that option as you install, so take your time and read the prompts first, uncheck the stoopid stuff. It is indeed faster than IE7 here. Still won't put a scrollbar on those pesky pgmusic forum screens that have been made too wide for the screen, though. --Mac

Be warned, my IT guys at work told us not to upgrade from IE 7 to IE8. Well I did on my home computer and I can now no longer access my company Web Based ERP system nor can I use certain features in our SharePoint Services. Even with the "capatibility mode" of IE 8. Just google "SharePoint and IE8" to see all the fuss....

I use Safari on windows vista. I used Mozilla, had a few sites that would not allow me to sign in then I would use IE 8, did not notice a difference from the previous version since I did not check the option for 8 to look for sites pertaining to what I most searched for. 8 claims it is safer than previous version. I do not have the sign in problems with Safari so more often than not I use it. Listen To My MusicRead My BlogMy Web PageReverbnation
