I am trying out my new copy of BIAB 2009.5 and this new conflict is arising associated with the use of VSTi instruments (pianos).

Situation:
Load BIAB 2009.5 per usual with MME audio settings. No Dxi. Output through SD2 module per usual (all exactly same as previous 2009 version).
Load EITHER one: "True Pianos Standalone" or "Pianoteq 3 Standalone". ASIO sound card (Indigo) settings.
No MIDI thru.
Call a style in BIAB. No Real Tracks available. ALL Real Drums available.
Result:
(1) Error message re: "cannot load wave file, may be in use etc."
(2) A few seconds later -- style loads and plays (without wave files?).

Error repeats whether BIAB or either of the standalone instruments is loaded first.

Variations:

(1) Loading EITHER of the piano instruments via a host (in this case Brainspawn Forte Ensemble latest version) appears to remove conflict and error message. This was not necessary before 2009.5 -- standalone versions worked perfectly.

(2) Changing MME and ASIO speaker output settings so that BIAB uses one set (1 & 2 for example on the Indigo) and the standalone instrument another (say 3 & 4) also seems to remove the conflict -- but this was never necessary before.

Perhaps someone with these or other VSTi usage can check this out and confirm? It's not the end of the world, but many times I prefer using the VSTi setups in the standalone mode -- less complicated.

Hi Lloyd,
We didn't make any changes to the ASIO/MME in 2009.5 (vs 2009). So if something is different, it could be something inadvertent that got changed at our end, or the same thing at your end.

Has anyone noticed any different behaviour like this in 2009.5 vs 2009 ?

Have Fun!

Hi Lloyd,

You might try this: under the Opts menu in BIAB, select, "Return to Factory Settings" and then select the 2nd button instead of the first, which will also reset the soundcard settings inside BIAB.

Don't know if it will solve your particular exact problem, but I think it might as it has solved similar problems where installation of an update has resulted in this kind of thing happening.

Peter: I understand. It is clearly something new that has cropped up, since I did not make any setup changes either.

Mac: Thanks for the sugegstions. Tried it again; no luck. So far, ONLY using different sound output channels for BIAB and the standalone VSTi voices removes the hitch. Not critical for me at the moment, since my laptop setup cound card (Echo Indigo ASIO) will permit that. And of course I can run through Ensemble as well, and the hitch goes away.

I will continue fiddling. Tomorrow I'll install the 2009.5 upgrade on my desktop using identical VSTi voices with the M-Audio 24/96 and see how that goes.

ASIO is a "one man dog" by design. Sometimes I have been able to access the same ASIO outputs with two different programs but usually no.

I didn't mention that earlier because I thought it was the case that you were using MME in BIAB?

If one program is Windows Sound (MME/WDM) and the other is ASIO, the soundcard may let you use the same outputs at the same time.

Mac: Right the first time -- ever since I first started with BIAB some years ago, I've always set it up as MME. ASIO is used for the voice host/VSTi. All has been well up to now. Only since upgrading have I had to use two soundcard channels to get around this glitch. I also experimented with both operations in ASIO, using ASIOAll, etc. etc. but nothing has provided a solution. So far. Since I've reset BIAB 2009.5 to factory default and then reset my patches, etc. I don't know what else to do.

Hmmmmm.

The "wave file error" box pops up EACH TIME I begin another style/song; then closes, then music starts as usual. Resetting all the MIDI box choices doesn't help.

I wonder why using a host between the VSTi pianos and BIAB does provide a solution? I have Forte Ensemble setup to use ASIO just like the standalone VSTi voices.

Hi Lloyd,

Very rarely we come across a problem like this so take a look at this analysis -

If it worked ok before the update but has NEVER worked after

1. 2009 worked fine ASIO/MME

2. But 2009.5 does not work in these areas and error messages

3. If 2009.5 is somehow a faulty or incomplete installation then return to factory settings will also not also be complete

I have first tried to re-install Biab 2009.5 and subsequent updates over the top of the existing one - but if this does not work I have uninstalled 2009.5 - rebooted and re-installed the BIAB 2009.5 and updates again making sure that ALL virus/spyware/pop-up etc programs are disabled and that NO other program is open
Drivers can be corrupted or stopped by these filters
