Purchased and installed my upgrade from 2009.5 to 2010 this week. Right away this anomaly showed up:
In previous versions, I found the best audio setup for using BIAB and my MIDI keyboard controllers was (1) BIAB setting as MME, and (2) MIDI keyboard setting as ASIO. Ketron SD2 as MIDI sound module; Echo Indigo laptop soundcard. This has worked perfectly for quite some time.
Not this time.
I fooled around trying to get rid of the constant "...wave file not found, another program may be using ..." error message on playing any BIAB output. Tried standalone MIDI output (I use Pianoteq and True Pianos and a couple others). Tried using my host Forte Ensemble and VSTI setups. No go. Typically I get the error message in BIAB on selecting PLAY, but a few seconds later, it in fact does begin to play my selection. Error message reappears on replay.
Finally, I switched BIAB over to ASIO and the MIDI controllers to MME. Success. At least so far. MIDI module output through the SD2 seems right on, no latency problems that I see, and volume control, etc. OK. Error message gone.
So -- I'm back in business at the moment, but I'm left wondering what's happened between versions to change things? And I was always under the impression that MME for BIAB was the optimum setup?
Thought maybe one of you really sharp forum members might experiment shed some light. And thank you, as usual.

Lloyd, I'm confused. You have to choose between ASIO or MME, and it's for audio, not for MIDI. I don't know of a way to choose ASIO for audio and MME for MIDI. It's just one or the other. Maybe you could share some screen shots of what you are doing.

Sorry if I am not clear.
Let's take the Forte Ensemble/True Pianos VSTI setup. In audio choices, one can select either MME or ASIO drivers. Typically in the past, I used ASIO here. Virtual piano sounds play fine (via laptop and SD2).
Then in BIAB, I used the MME driver. BIAB sounds play fine (also via SD2).
You are right, one or the other for each.
But why would the new version seem to make me reverse the original settings?
Nothing else was changed, only BIAB was upgraded.
That's what is puzzling to me.
Not complaining -- I LOVE BIAB.

Likely there were some changes made to the BIAB Audio Engine in order to make the faster loading RealTracks happen, as well as Drag and Drop, Audio Reverb and Tone controls, etc.
Good that simply reversing the Audio driver choice around does the trick for you.
And don't forget about the Patch Updates that always follow a new release as problems surface and get worked out. Keep track of the Updates.

Can't count the number of times I've said "I wish it wouldn't default to ASIO" .. I think it causes more grief for newbies than it does convenience for the experienced..
Most users, especially since many are now going the SD2 (or other hard synth route) , will find MME more than adequate; and for stability, well you know
For the others the usual latency question gets handled occasionally, no biggie; post a sticky thread once.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
