Okay, I'm sticking with this thread.
The Line 6 has a headphone jack. I hear guitar through it. I've moved the Line 6 to the top in the Drivers output box, now I hear RB through my Line 6. I'm also hearing RB through computer speakers, and there's a hug time lag between the two. Needless to say, this sounds like descending into the depths of hell.

Actually, it seems as though the sound coming out the computer speakers isn't keeping up with the visual. The sound coming out of the Line 6 is ahead of what's coming out of pc speakers, and is in time with the screen.

Very cool, all audio is going in/out of Line6, now we just need to get the MIDI to do that also.
You are hearing the midi from the computer speakers with a lag. Now if you put a check in the box that says 'reroute all MIDI to default DXi synth', then select a synth from the dropdown, you should hear everything thru the Line6 and be able to record. That box is in the MIDI device dialogue.
If you want to use speakers, you'll have to rig those from the output of the Line6, using either the line out (for powered speakers) or the headphone jack.
RB should be running fine once you do that.

I'm not. I'm inches away from sending this crap back and getting my money refunded. "Frustrated" isn't the word.
I now have RealBand blaring through my headphone jack, with my guitar coming out at whisper-quiet levels, no sound coming from my computer speakers, and no guitar recording in sight (or sound). PG support is now telling me to go from the audio out of the Line 6 into the line-in of the soundcard, which I'll have to go out and buy another cable to do, although I'm told that going into the soundcard in such a way adds noise to the recording.
Large tufts of my hair are going to be falling out soon.

We had the recording working fine a couple days ago, what happened?
I was trying to get you the best fidelity by recording USB with Line6. If you *want* to hear it thru the computer speakers I guess support is on the right track.. needing an adapter or cable is not unusual.
Otherwise, we had the Line6 monitoring recording and playback a couple days ago, all you were missing was the MIDI synth. Using a Dxi synth should have solved this. As far as levels go, you use the mixer volumes to balance the input (record) with the playback signal. I'm pretty sure if I was sitting there with you we would be up and running by now.
What changed since our posts on 1/7/11 at 2:26? Did you try the Dxi synth??

I don't know what changed. I was never wild about monitoring the mix in the Line 6 headphone mix, anyway. But today it was screaming and it's not easy to turn down in panic mode with the XT Live. I'd rather hear the mix with the guitar at the computer.
There's occasional noise from the cable while going into the soundcard. I suspect if I use better cables and clean up all the wires around my chair, this will work fine. Now I just need to figure out how to do mixing after the recording, etc. I feel like I haven't gotten any learning done about how to use this program because I'd hit the brick wall trying to get it to work correctly. I'm still annoyed that I've got this amp modeling effects unit that is particularly versatile with tones and such, and it seems to not want to work with RB in regards to the USB input. I don't know if that's a Line 6 issue, a PG Music issue, or both. Line 6 apparently is all about ASIO drivers, which I'm told don't play well with PG Music software. That's not good. I'm also quite taken aback that there is little-to-no instruction/tutorial information for the new user. I'm not even a new user and I'm befuddled. However, when I follow the tutorial, the information in there is outdated or wrong.
Rharv, I think you're right, if you were sitting here, this probably would have been running days ago. However, you're not, and I don't think PG Music should expect everyone to have your level of expertise. This is short-sighted on their part (but I also blame Line 6).
That said and done, what's the deal with audio editing? Can I edit what I've recorded, like tweaking attack times on notes, deleting notes that shouldn't be there, and changing the pitch on an out of tune note? Is there any quantizing available, or is that only on MIDI information?

Quantizing is MIDI.
Highlite your audio track and click the wavform button (or F2) to open the Audio Edit window. Then you can cut, paste, or hold down ctrl and click-slide parts around, etc.
You can right-click a highlited note and pitch shift.

I'm sorry that I didn't jump in sooner. I sort of have the same setup as you except for bass. I use IKMultimedia's Ampeg SVX modeling plugin & their Stealth guitar/bass USB interface. This interface is ASIO only. If you want to use it to record you will have to listen through the devices Headphone jack because it's doubtful that you're computer soundcard has ASIO drivers. Also you can't use the modeling effect in standalone mode because the ASIO driver can only access one program at a time. In this case RB.What you do is "enable input monitoring" & "Allow IM effects recording" then insert the modeling synth as a VST into the track you want to record.Should do it for you. It does for me.

BTW, thanks to all, especially RHARV for all of your patience with me. I did end up getting the USB connection to the PC and got RealBand running and recording. Headphone with the Line 6 is the way to go. It's doing exactly as I was hoping. Now I'm just getting my sequencer chops back and working through some arrangements to play over and record. You guys are the best.
What's the consensus on a decent USB microphone for fairly inexpensive? I'm not even sure how these work. I take it that they have their own pre-amp? This would be for recording vocals into RB and/or BIAB?

We are all just fellow users volunteering to help others when possible. I know things didn't work as expected right away. This is a new release and we all are finding little things that need attention. I hope you stick around and start having fun here now.
As far as USB mic goes, I'd start a new thread so more people see the question. I have no experience with that. I know there are a couple small inline devices that can make a regular mic work thru USB, if you have a regular (XLR type) mic already.
