I don't recall any previous threads. It was a long tedious task here, but worth the effort. Using 'Add/Remove Programs' from the control panel worked pretty well for me recently... I'd remove a few, restart, check the TaskManager for services still running, then decide what else needed to go.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Don't know for certain about recent HP laptops, but a few years back, their desktops came loaded with bloatware. Do what Bob - rharv - says. Also, if you feel a bit more bold, you can use the Start button to type "Run" and then "msconfig". There you will see a tab for "Startup" where you can uncheck programs that run when your laptop boots. I recommend you uncheck one at a time and reboot to test the effect, unless you know what you are looking at. The nice thing here is that you are not uninstalling anything; just keeping it from running, and you can always go back and check it if you need it. Another approach is to use a free (shareware) program you can download, called PC Decrapifier. Go here: http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/home and click on What It Removes to see what it can do. The list of common programs it removes is so long, it takes three screens to show it all.

Perfect Matt, I'll look for the software. Decrapifier! love it. But I am not qualified to decide what programs to disable or eject with great pedjudice. How would anyone know? This is worse than the legal system. The trail and error stuff does not suit my personality. There has to be a better way.

Yes, PC Decrapifier is for folks who feel as you do.
As for who would know what to do on a more detailed level, perhaps someone who has worked with PCs since the mid-seventies, builds their own, and teaches others? Can't imagine who that could be.

Ron,
Uae of the decrapifier program *when the machine is still new* is a good thing.
That said, the days of Win95, W98, W2000, etc. where we often had to perform various and sundry "tweaks" to a system in which we intended to do music and audio work are almost over. *GRIN*
Since the release of XP SP2 and forward, I have found very little of that sort of tweaking needed in advance of any problem you may encounter and so I don't recommend trying to do any tweaks like that unless and until you discover a certain problem and research it thoroughly enough to ascertain if said tweak is truly necessary to do - or will even solve the problem at hand.
For PGMusic softwares, the only holdover from those dark days of tweaking Win98 etc. is the Drivers issue.
Making certain that you have downloaded the *LATEST* drivers for your soundcard and video are about the only two things I recommend doing before any particular problem actually appears in front of you that may be a showstopper. The disk that comes included with most aftermarket Sound Devices is likely to be very old code indeed, although I may use one for an Install I will immediately head to the website support section of its mfr and locate and download the latest drivers for my system and update those immediately - always followed by a reboot first before trying to run the music program on it.
The fact that we no longer have to perform a long list of tweaks to the system in order to get music making work done on the machine is a Good Thing IMO.
But I remember way back when we had to even disable the taskbar clock in Win95 or risk it creating audio stream interruptions...
