I imported a midi track and select the melody to 'Flute'. However, most notes are played as a 'piano' not the flute. Even if I change the bar properties, only the first note plays as a flute.

The midi file was created in TabEdit as I don't play a Midi keyboard and don't control the output. Anyway to get this to work using just BIAB without a Midi controller? I'm using a Ketron SD-2 as my MIDI module with an XP-pro machine.

I'm not real skilled with BIAB so if I'm overlooking something simple, I apologize.

Thanks for your time and advice.

I opened up the file in another program and saw that there were actually 3 tracks. I changed them all to flute and now it works. How could I have discovered that in BIAB or Real Tracks???

You may have an embedded patch change in your MIDI track. You can check that by choosing Melody menu/Edit melody track/Setp edit melody/ and look there for patch change.

If you are using an imported MIDI file inside BiaB, the big rounf green SEQ button opens up the MIDI tracks that are all imported onto the Melody track. There you can see how many individual tracks there may be.

If you open the MIDI file in RB, you should simply just see the tracks in the Tracks View.

There is one type of MIDI that shows all tracks and another that has all instruments on one track. RB can "Extract Channels to Tracks" to turn the one track with all into separate tracks.

Chappy this comes up all the time with people who are not familiar with midi. It takes a book to go into it all but the two main things that get people are patch changes and volume changes. Those are embedded in the file itself and will override what you as the user are trying to do if you don't understand it. If the person who created the file uses a flute in a GM synth, and you are using a GM synth for sound no problem but if that person used a non GM synth say a Roland or Yamaha then that flute patch number will trigger something else unless you are using the same synth. The second thing is volume changes. You can be in Real Band, spend 15 minutes setting all the volume sliders to get your desired mix and then watch it all go away when you hit play again. Why? Because there are embedded volume changes in the midi file so every time you hit play those override what you just did. Saving the song doesn't help, you have to go into the event list and modify those volume cc's first then save the song.
Midi can be tricky and it requires study.

If you make any changes in the .seq menu, be sure to "re-channel" the midi tracks there so they will NOT play on any of the default Biab midi channels.

Opt/Pref/Channels will list your default Biab set up. You can change them there if you want to use 1-16, save the drums (Ch 10), in a chronological order.
