Here are some of the things that you can tell us that may allow us to help you:
When does it crash?
How long has it been doing this, and did anything on your system change since it started crashing?
What is your operating system (is 6.1 some form of Vista?) and BIAB build #? [If it is 313, you should try updating to 317 first].
Did you reboot?
Did you Return to Factory Settings?
What is your soundcard?
All drivers up to date?
Does your system pass the DPC Latency Checker test?
How powerful is your PC? Alternatively, what is your Geekbench rating?
BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Fender Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Which version of BIAB are you running? Did you happen to try to install the Roland VSC or VSC-DXi synth in Windows 7 64-bit?

When does it crash?
It has crashed constantly, usually after I recompose a part.
How long has it been doing this, and did anything on your system change since it started crashing?
Since I bought the program. Nothing has changed on my system.
What is your operating system (is 6.1 some form of Vista?) and BIAB build #? [If it is 313, you should try updating to 317 first].
Windows 7, running BIAB in 32 bit. New computer, mucho RAM, no internet, no antivirus, nothing running in the background.
Did you reboot?
No. I did restart BIAB though.
Did you Return to Factory Settings?
Serveral times. The only change I've made in the Settings is to de-activate the metronome.
What is your soundcard?
M-Audio FastTrack USB. Works fine with Sonar 8.5.3.
All drivers up to date?
Yes.
Does your system pass the DPC Latency Checker test?
Haven't run that.
How powerful is your PC? Alternatively, what is your Geekbench rating?
Plenty of power. Never heard of Geekbench.

Version 2011 (313).
No Roland. I'm using the Cakewalk TTS-1 32 Bit. Thanks to both of you for the help!

Thanks, very helpful. I'm not clear on a few points.
What is your OS, 32 or 64-bit? This relates to John's question.
Did you try the update to Build #317?
When did you buy BIAB? The reason I ask is that there have been updates to the RealTracks, and you said most of your crashes occur when you recompose a part, which I assume means regenerate RealTracks.

Well, I would definitely update to build 317 (from 313). Also, make sure you are using the FastTrack USB driver for Windows 7. I would also reboot the computer just to be sure and then return to factory settings. If you haven't changed your UAC settings, I would at least right click on the BIAB icon and select "Run as Administrator". Just a few things to try.

It's a 32/64 bit system, but I am running both BIAB and RB at 32 bit - same with Sonar. Is the 317 update a downloadable file? I have BIAB/RB on a computer with no internet connection, and would need to load it from a thumb drive.

Update 317 is available as a downloadable file from the PGMusic web site. It's 25MB in size and you can get it at this link ---> BIAB 2011 Build 317I don't understand when you say it's a 32/64 bit system. Your operating system is either 32-bit or it's 64-bit. It can't be both. 32-bit OS's can only run 32-bit applications. 64-bit OS's can run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. The PGMusic applications (BIAB, PTPA, RealBand, etc) are all 32-bit applications.

I mis-spoke. It's a 64 bit system, but I run both Sonar and BIAB in 32 bit. Thanks for the link to the update.

No, it's not. It's either Win 7 32 bit or it's Win 7 64 bit if you don't know look it up. Don't confuse the applications with the OS. Biab is a 32 bit app that will run fine on Win 7 64 bit but not all 32 bit plugins will run properly if it's a 64 bit system. This means for example the old Roland VSC DXi will not run on a 64 bit system and there's others. That could be your problem. This is why we're asking specific questions. You're dealing with 3 things here: The OS, the programs ie Biab and Sonar and the plugins ie software synths and effects. All the drivers have to be correct for whatever the total picture is. You notice you don't see a ton of posts by people screaming about Biab crashing. I haven't had it do a hard crash on me in like 5-7 years or something and I've upgraded systems several times. Right now I'm running an Athlon Phenom 6 core, Win 7 64 bit, 4 gigs ram, 1TB hd, using a Sonic Cell hardware synth and interface. This is the info we need from you, don't just blow it off by saying you have "plenty of power". And dig out that thumb drive, the first rule of music production software is keep it current with updates. Without knowing that all the updates are current, we can't help you.

You must have missed my reply:
"I mis-spoke. It's a 64 bit system, but I run both Sonar and BIAB in 32 bit. Thanks for the link to the update."
I am aware of the difference between an OS and a program, thank you. I merely asked if anyone could diagnose what my problem was. I didn't expect such a condescending reply. Most folks here are polite and genial. Guess you are the exception.
For the other people who actually tried to help, here are my system specs:
Intel Core i3-550 processor(4MB Cache, 3.20GHz) 4GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4x1GB 750GB - SATA-II 3Gb/s 7200RPM, 16MB Cache HDD Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
Thanks.

Don't misunderstand, not condescending at all just trying to be precise. I apparently posted my reply the same time John did. When you were asked several times for system details and you keep referring to 32 bit programs as opposed to answering the question about your OS and calling your system a 32/64 I wasn't sure you did know the difference between the OS and a program. Here's an example:
Question from JFord: "Which version of BIAB are you running? Did you happen to try to install the Roland VSC or VSC-DXi synth in Windows 7 64-bit?"
Your answer: "No Roland. I'm using the Cakewalk TTS-1 32 Bit."
Reread John's question carefully. Seriously, does that sound like you know the difference between the OS and a program?
Some here don't and it can be confusing to folks who just bought a new PC and don't know 64 bits from 64 beers. The point is this stuff is highly technical and it requires a knowledge of PC's, their archetecture, the software, external hardware and an understanding of proper terminology.
Reread Matt's questions and give complete answers not just a short brush off like "recompose a part" Exactly what part, midi or audio or both? Are you using 2 or 3 Real Tracks or 7 RT's? You also never answered the question are you using the correct driver for your Fastrack? How do you know it's the correct driver.

I for the 64 beers. As many of us run 64 bit systems without problem, finding someone who gets crashes is a good thing. It allows the 'cleansing' of the applications so that others don't encounter this in the future.
I hope that the 'mother ship' here, ie pgmusic is involved in the process of figuring this out. I ran band in a box in 64 bit mode using a Ketron and the Coyote Forte version of the softsynth for 6 hours yesterday with no problems. I messed with chord output to my Voiceworks, recorded things, and fooled with harmonies. Multiple drives, multiple folders of songs etc. So I know my system is rock solid. So given the same build (I'm always one of the first to update), and the same OS, we need to figure what from there is the problem. As the software does not call outside stuff often it has to be a softsynth or part of the rendering process to wav / mp3 /wma etc. Or a permissions thing which can pop up for various reasons.
Go from here, now that we have the basic info, forget who used what tone of voice on a inquiry...at least there is a response and answer.
Back to the 64 beers. I'll pass a few back, hic.

John has a good point. Let's revisit my first question. Exactly what are you doing when it crashes? Please be as specific as possible.

Matt,
It happens when I am trying to recompose a part, i.e. I have already done a section, say 8 bars, then I right-click on the first measure and select "Play from Measure 4, etc.) I may be doing that wrong. Most of my problems stem from pilot error!
My problem is bigger than that, though. I just composed four bars, then tried to compose the 2nd 4 bars and the chord just continued playing the last chord in the 1st 4 bars.
Could I have a bad install? I installed the program onto my HD from the external drive I got from PG.
Thanks for the help!

Whenever BiaB does something that it is not supposed to do, or does not do something that it is supposed to do:
*First, try a reboot of the computer. For some reason I don't know, when I'm working long editing sessions with BiaB, something sometimes happens that gets those important bit ducks out of line and a reboot often cures the problem.
*If the above fails to bring joy, then open BiaB and use the "Return to Factory Settings" command under the Options menu. There is a critical file that BiaB must write to when it closes down. Crashes and freezes, etc. can corrupt that file. The Return to Factory Settings command rebuilds that file for you.
Once you have BiaB working properly again, revisit the Return to Factory Settings and take a Snapshot of your personal preferences settings so that next time you have to do that it won't return BiaB to the default factory settings, but to the way you like things to be.
HTH, and it generally has a good success rate around here,

Matt -
I installed the 317 update, rechecked my drivers and tried BIAB. I composed an entire song, and went to the scroll bar to scroll back up to the beginning of the song, and the program froze, the screen turned white, giving me a "not responding" message at the top right.
This is frustrating.

Try what I just posted above.
And be preparewd to find out that any files you were working on may be corrupted and won't work right. If such is the case, after doing the above, you may have to start those songfiles over again hitting New and entering from scratch.
Whenever BB crashes or freezes it can't write to that critical file that has all the settings info and stuff before it closes and that file can become corrupted rather easily. We used to have to go inside the bb folder and locate the file and delete it with BB closed and then open BB again to get the program to rebuild the file. Several versions back, at my suggestion, Peter implemented the "Return to Factory" menu item that makes this task a bit easier to perform. And now we can take that snapshot of our personal settings when BB is running correctly, such that it won't be a return to factory default settings but a return to the way you've already set the program for your own use.

So this crashing is a common problem with BIAB?
