That is going to work, but plan on it taking some time depending on the speed of the computer. Start it and go have lunch. And maybe dinner.
Though from what I hear the newer versions are smaller than the 2009 I originally had and backed up the same way. I have not backup up since I went to 2011.

I have two of the 150 gig drives one from 2010, and one from 2011. I wanted to copy the 2011 drive to the older one.
I downloaded three different cloneing softwares and was very disappointed in the way it handled the job, they either tried to compress, or add abunch of crazy folders, or they failed to copy the inner folders, or some sort of nonesense.
So i ended up re-formatting the drive and just highlighting the contents of one drive and dragging it all over and allowing a good hour to pass by and now i have both of my small hard drives up to date

Drag & drop seems to work better than Copy/Paste... but you are right Start then go eat..

I am confused about something.
If you got your BIAB on a hard drive, THAT is your backup. Install it onto the computer and put your original hard drive away.

Johnny,
If you go ahead with the copy, make sure you have the "View hidden files" option activated. There used to be a couple of hidden files in the BIAB suite and, unless these are visible, they won't be copied. (I'm not sure if this is still the case.)
Regards, Noel

Eddie, I don't have much room on my hard drive & I have 3 external hard drives, two are 1 tb & one is 250 gig, So by putting it on a 1tb, then I have room for all my tracks, songs, midis I've downloaded, etc. I bought Bob Martins 4100 songs & Jam songs & I'll keep that on the 1tbI also bought some of Norton's tracks.. then I can just put my BIAB away for safe keeping. If my 1tb ever gets corrupted, then I've still got the good one.. Sorry I didn't mean to confuse you..

Just guessing that you probably don't have a computer dedicated to BIAB or a music studio. I know I don't make up the rules for the world, but just saying that the computer I have BIAB on is as close to pristine as you can imagine. Drivers for the MIDI interface, Sonar and BIAB is about it on that brand new desktop computer. But like I said, that's just me.
Your way is going to work fine where you have yet another external drive. No worries.

You're right Eddie, I don't have one dedicated to BIAB, I do pretty much everything on the one, I like to make slide shows using a program called Pro Show Gold, plus I put my home camera movies, then transfer to DVD.. Wish I could afford a computer & use it only for BIAB, but at 77, I think this is it.. maybe next life..lol.. plus we live in an old mobile & space is a premium, my computer room is 8' x 10'.. sob..

I now use the USB drive for my BiaB work, too, because more and more I have to get things done on the laptop and not the dedicated DAW. The USB drive allows me to work on either machine, though, with all my personal songfiles right there and updated as I go.
I do have the BiaB .exe file installed on my DAW desktop, though and pointed that to the external drive for the RealDrums/Realtracks. But on the laptop, I no longer find that necessary, running it all from the external drive works as well.
Those who are only using BiaB for home recording have a different set of needs than those of us who also use it for live autoaccompaniment. The laptop sits on the Grand Piano musicboard along with that USB drive...

Yes it's true in my situation too, so by taking my Hard drive out, it's really not put away for safe keeping. Hence the need for me to copy it & put the original away for safe keeping. We spend our winters (5 months) in South Texas, & I have a computer there, so I haul my USB hard drive back & forth & as Mac just have a short cut on my desk top pointing to the USB drive..
