Been through the real tracks and just not finding what I would call the country blues type of piano. Where is the Micky Gilly, Jerry Lee Lewis or Jimmy Swaggart type of piano backgrounds or soloists? What do you guys use for this style of piano? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

At this time. That should be requested in the BIAB wish list. I will gladly second the request. I
n the meantime, the midi acustic piano #001 with a floyd crammer harmony #49 (midi) works nice. elc

I was aware of the floyd cramer style. I was looking for something in the real tracks. Of course I can continue to just play the licks in myself. I'll have to practice a little and get my chops back in shape I quess.

I did submit it to the wish list.

There are some MIDI styles with good piano in them, and piano is one of the instruments that, with a good MIDI synth, can sound like the real thing.

I guess that with all of the hype about how much BETTER the real tracks where than MIDI I just assumed that I would find something ready to go in a RT. Gotto admit that after I have started to play with some of them I have been getting hooked. Now I've got to go back to my old trusty MIDI. Gee Mom, I'm sorry but I lied when I said look no MIDI!!

**Many have commented on how mixing MIDI with RealTracks in a song can serve to somehow make the MIDI parts sound more realistic.**

I think this is especially true when the Patch is a hammered instrument like the piano.

Earl it is not reasonable to expect them to have a RT for every occasion, it took years to build the arsenal of midi styles and such, it will take years to ahve all the RTs one could imagine.

Mixing Midi and RTs is a wonderful thing. I was mixing a song last night in RB, and i generated both a midi , and a RT piano track, and compared. Both were great, (midi with sampletank) but the RT won in the end on this occasion. I have had time the midi won, due to need.

Robh, So to mix midi & Real Tracks, I would have to do it in Real Band?? Is there anywhere that tells or shows me how to mix the 2, like you did with your Piano tracks..
Sorry Earl I guess I should have started my own thread on this, & I will do that.

I spent a lot of time back through the 90s creating BIAB files of my original tunes before RTs and I'm not prepared to jettison all midi - I'd like to hold on to Midi Bass parts (you can tweak and edit them easily), Piano, Drums - you can actually augment RDs when you have a kick and snare that need help. Midi Banjo and Fiddle can also pass scrutiny pretty well.

There are also some pretty good midi soloists or melodists that can be used in replacement of as yet uncreated solo RTs . . . if your ears can eq midi (convert to audio) and RTs to sound close.

We've a lot of tools at our disposal - I never thought I'd ever hear synths and country music come together.

Hi johnnyo34,

The way to mix MIDI Band in a Box tracks with RealTracks is to understand that the MIDI tracks are available only as parts of MIDI Styles, not available for use one-at-a-time like with the RealTracks.

Load a MIDI style and generate parts to the chord grid.

Sine you are in Realband, simply keep the track you are interested in and kill the rest. Move that track to an area down below the BiaB generated tracks area.

You can also mix the parts from two or more MIDI styles in this fashion, by simply repeating tha above.

In RB if i want a midi track, and the style i am using does not have that option, I open a new style and have the program generate a midi track. Double click the style area, and choose from the list. Then right click in an empty track (first change that track to midi) the click on generate midid track-piano or what ever.

Well, quite a few great answers here but I remember when the real tracks first came out there was this great loud noise about how they where so much greater then MIDI. I can see where they could be but with MIDI I am not dependent on PGMusic for my tracks. With Real Tracks I am. Now several of us have asked about opening up the process so that others could produce 3rd party real tracks but PG seems to want to hold onto this for himself. I observed back then that I couldn't really get the real tracks to play what I want them to play. They only play what has been recorded by that particular person. With MIDI I can adjust each note if need be. Back then I had only the dx synth sounds that came with BIAB and they didn't compare with the real track in sound. Now I have several DAW's that can handle a slew of virtual instruments and I have been able to obtain some that are really dynomite. In fact with the sounds I now have available it may not be worthwhile to try and obtain anymore real tracks. But than again, I don't have a good steel guitar and the real track steel sounds very nice. So.... guess you use a little of this and a little of that. Still it would be nice to be able to create our own real tracks. I wonder what would happen to BIAB if some of the super loop makers started making real tracks. If there where a couple of hit songs created with just one of tracks and BIAB every pro studio in town would have to get a copy of BIAB so they could come up with there copy cat hit!

Hello Earl,
This may not answer all your concerns, but if you have BB 2011.5, you can at least have some nice midi tracks along with Real Drums, without having to hardly think about it. First, you have BB, then you have the second program called Real Band. (I'm sure you are past that point already.) Anyway, make a total midi file in BB, open Real Band and find the midi file in the BB file folder. Open it into Real Band. Then, be very patient, you will see that it's changing the midi drums to Real drums. Your cpu will be maxing out. Wait! It will be done soon. When the number drops down to 4 or 5, it'll be done. After that, you will be able to play the mixed file, and the drums will, almost always be a perfect match+ for the midi they replaced. If you're like me, you will find the new file a great improvement over just a total midi. So much so that you will be more than ready to knock out a bunch more tunes. lol! Hope this helps. By the way, if you can't hear the drums as much as you'd like, turn 'em up in the tracks view. If they're still not loud enough, right click on the drums volume control slider. Type in the number "4" and within a second or two, you'll have drums so loud, you'll have to move that slider down a tad. Hey, every day I'm practicing with my electric guitar and singing my files. Once you get it all edited the way you want, it'll be a total kick. Good luck!
Griff
