The RightClick and Mute at any bar will mute the entire bar for whatever instrument tracks you pick.
If you need or want to have your virtual players sit out on beats within the bar rather than the entire bar, RightClick and choose Chord Settings, follow the dialog boxes in the lower RH corner of the window that opens. At top are the four beats of the bar selected by radio buttons for each beat.
