I just landed a steady Tuesday 6-9 gig at a new place that is actually geared towards Classic Country. If it goes well I'll also do Wed. & Thursday. This is the first since my wife passed. I'm sure she'll be there in spirit. Keep your fingers crossed for me as you all know Country Classics have some tough tear jerking lyrics to get through.

John, we all know you can do it. Might be a bit tough at first, but this is a great opportunity to get out and do something you love.

Hey, John - Seems it was not too long ago you were worried because there weren't any opportunities to gig in your area. Sounds like things are looking up. Congratulations!

Things are changing some as more and more towns approve the sale of liquor in restaurants. The county I'm in only allows it in the 2 Cities.. We're voting here soon to make it County wide.I'm debating on what to do if I'm offered the extra nights. I'm concerned that I'll sort of get stale being in the same place all the time. Any thoughts?

Firstly congratulations on the first opportunity, go out there and wow them, and enjoy it yourself to. Secondly, yes perhaps just doing the one spot might just get stale over time, same old same old till you get bored playing it, even though the audience request it every night your on. So taking up a second gig elsewhere could help, (Not at the same venue) Force you to learn new stuff or might not, only you can tell that. However a lot also depends on time, your own and whatever you may have to use for other purposes, such as earning a living at some other skill, I don't know that one of course, but if you finish up getting too physically tired through working too many nights, that can be a slippery slope to disaster. Only you can know the answers to how much time you can give.

John,
I wouldn’t worry too much about about being in the same place as I would thinking about how often you want to perform and how many songs you have in your repetoire.
It also depends on your personal reasons for performing. If it’s mainly for fun, then one night a week may do the trick and would obviously put less pressure on you.
If it’s also about the money, then mo’ gigs = mo’ money.
If it would be more fun for you to play in different spots through the week, then I’d be hesitant to accept more nights from your current employer. If you accept Wed and Thur from him and later find someplace else you’d like to play on those nights, it may be hard to make that change without ticking him off.
If your current employer would allow you to leave most of your equipment there for a 3 day gig and it would be safe, that would obviously be a big plus.
These are questions only you can answer. Just giving you some food for thought.

I'm a seasoned giging musician. I've been playing, until 2004, 2-5 nights a week either solo or in a band since I was 18. That's 42 years. I'm 60. I don't have a day job nor do I need the extra gigs for the $$$. That's why I want it to stay fun. This is my first gig since my wife passed away as I mentioned and that was only 10 weeks ago. I know I'm going WAY out on a limb here emotionally but I've got to try. I can only hope, if you believe as I do, that she is the one giving me that opportunity to help me heal. Thanks folks for listening to a little more then just the music side.

You have friends here. As far as I’m concerned, people should be able to post what they want and folks will either respond or ignore it.
The members who used to be so prone to try to play “forum cops” and recite rule numbers have backed off, as they should have.
Keep us posted.

Yep, you got that right big Bob, we have had enough nonsense here. If it is not outright in bad taste or just wrong, we need to be tolerant.
John, this is the off topic forum, post what you feel. I Only know you from this place, and knew nothing of your wife. But if she was anything like mine, she would want you to have a full, happy, productive life. To be able to do what you love to do, and still enjoy it is great.
Nothing can heal wounds like music, or .. er antibiotics, but hey i perfer music! Let this be your therapy. I was a little down the other night, so i played a ful set just for me. My favorite was "It's hard to be Humble" Mac Davis!! Must be the way i fill out my skin tight blue jeans!!!!!
