Well they emailed me and canceled. That's OK though.Lot of musicians very few places to play. I'm too old to want to play that game.

John,
did they cancel the whole recurring every Tuesday gig, or just the Tuesday before Thanksgiving?

John,

I can’t remember if this has come up before, but have you considered looking for SMALL to med. - small churches in your area for fellowship and a possible place to play?

The reason I mention those is they’re very happy to have visitors and especially visitors who can play and sing, especially ones who have their own PA system and a one man band like you have. It would take a visit or two for you to decide if you’re interested in this before you spring the music part on them.

A small church could be a chance for fellowship and a possible means for you to share your music with people who will really appreciate it. It could be a blessing for you and for them.

You might even find some other musicians to play with.

Pat,
It was not a matter of them not having anything on Tuesday. They canceled. me so that the group that comes on Wednesday could come on Tuesday instead. This after I went and did all sorts of self promotion. They still want me.They are being held hostage by this group. I'm tired of this sort of stuff and they are just the straw that broke the camels back.

I've also thought of that. Great suggestion. I'd have to get a whole bunch of new tunes together though.

John,

1st of all PLEASE don't give up. I know you have a lot going on, especially still dealing with the recent grieving in your life, but you have to make yourself keep moving forward. There is no doubt in my mind that the Good Lord will be there to carry you should you stumble.

Regarding the recent cancellation, I'd take that situation with a grain of salt as the group who replaced you no doubt has a good following. With this said my bet is that with a few weeks under your belt you will become this venue's go to act. So hang in there my friend things will look better with time.

PS: And let me know if there is anything I can do to help?

Later,

John,

i have found that the way i choose to view my life's happenings goes a long way toward how i react to those happenings the road to this discovery has been and continues not to be smooth

in this scenario: if a natural disaster, car smashing into the establishment causing damage such that the place couldn't open tue there may be a different set of feelings

the reality that you would not be playing tue night would not change just how you may feel about it

while you may not be playing the gig where you planned on tue you can still play the gig & your wife and other friends in heaven will appreciate it

hope this helps some

Mike,
You are correct. I will play Tues and most every other day right at home. I know this may be confusing to some and my attitude may not be what others would have but let me explain a little. I am a very honest & considerate person. I treat people the way i would want to be treated. I know this doesn't always happen. Doesn't mean I have to like it either. here are some facts:
1. I'm 60 and play out for fun not for the "look at me" thing
2. I don't charge, I play for fun. Don't criticize this. You all pay money for fun in some way.
3. When someone does what they did no matter what the reason, with total lack of respect for me, to go there would not be fun.A call prior to it being a done deal would have gone a long way.
It's called integrity.A trait that seems to be missing these days.

Scott,
Clean out your PM box it's full. I'll answer here.
Hi Scott,
I think I replied in the Forum while you were typing here. I must have read your mind. Thanks for the thoughts.
IF they had been honest upfront I would have worked with them. I'm not insensitive. They didn't. They emailed that it was a done deal. To bad so sad. With no indication that it won't happen again.
I'll find others.

You have every right to be offended by the offhand way they treated you. Unfortunately this is a common trait with many people, and it looks like it's on the rise. Common courtesy, like common sense, is not so common these days. But hey, the real loser here is the other guy. I'll bet he has to pay that other bunch whereas you do it for fun, and looking at his excuses I'd say he has more problems than he admits.

The fellow who used to head the Sales dept. of the firm I used to do development for taught me quite a bit about such things. Being the techno-geek type, I had little understanding of the process. We used to do lunch together at work and he would relate the inner goings-on of his sales efforts, among other lively discussions.

Some things that this experienced and very successful salesman taught me:

*"You have to pitch to ten in order to sell to one."

*"No sales pitch is ever a waste of time as you never know where a seemingly failed pitch is going to go over time."

*"Sometimes the pitch that failed with a certain potential customer turns into a sale being made to someone or some entity known only to that potential customer. People like to be helpful to each other and sometimes will go as fas as actually doing the sale for you - to someone else whom you don't even know.

John, it sounds like you made a successful sale here, the only problem is that the particular date in question had to be set aside for reasons that at this point are purely speculative, but always consider the innocent side of such transactions, keeping that optimistic viewpoint. It may only be that the contact is trying to keep a certain party whom has been doing bidness longer in the happy seat. A common scenario, actually.

Stay positive with the contact, let them know that you are still available for future work and that as far as they know, it is no harm, no foul as far as you are concerned. Tell the contact that you *understand*.

Because you've already made the sale, man. Time to not let them know about your personal letdown and be gracious about this as far as they are concerned.

Give it time, for it may just work into the Good Thing, you never know.

There is a bridge near where I live and in the warmer weather I see a few guys busking there, not all young either, no need to answer to anyone except maybe adhere to the local bylaws, they seem to do ok moneywise too.

but I guess its too cold for that at this time of year now.

Good Luck John.

So I posted congrats, and then TODAY I saw that the gig fell through. Aiee.

Chin up, buckaroo. As everybody else says, he's the jerk, and you deserve better treatment than that, and it'll come back to haunt him. You're in it for the right reasons; don't let one schmuck sour it for you.

I think Mac is right about looking at this as a sale. You sold yourself as a viable act because you made it convenient for them to let you play. That's generally a sales technique that opens doors that wouldn't otherwise be open.

Once you identified yourself as somebody who is willing to make sacrifices in order to enjoy your hobby, they probably assumed that you would be flexible in your schedule too. In my opinion, that would be a reasonable assumption for most people. They were probably blindsided by your reaction to being pushed back a week.

Given your stated goal of having fun, and the difficulty finding venues in your neck of the woods, why take a rigid position on this and treat it as a slight? They are still willing to provide what you want, but starting on a different date.

And I know what you mean about wanting to be treated the way you would treat others. Everybody does. Unfortunately everybody's version of good faith interaction is slightly different. Unless they INTENDED to devalue you (which I seriously doubt based on what you've said) why not work with them?

Rigidity restricts opportunity but Flexibility makes more things possible. You've got your foot in the door... don't walk away now!

I would have to agree with what Pat said. If you want to play, ... go with the flow.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
