Was just ready to shut down the PC tonite about 3am Central and decided to check the PGMusic page!

The 2012 Announcement is on the banner page. A couple of screen pages in the ordering process still say 2011.5, and the final order confirmation doesn't specifically say 2012 edition anywhere, but that should be updated by tomorrow.

Ordered the USB version Ultrapak, and with USB Express delivery, I'm hoping to have it on Monday!!

All RIGHT!
What other software company beats their target ship date by more than a week?
And the loops I've been wanting are now a reality! That's the news I've been waiting to hear!

From the home page:

Quote:

". . . includes over 50 great new features and enhancements, including these...

* New VST synth support for each track, for multiple synths on your songs, and use VST Audio Plug-ins (reverb, delay etc.) on each track.
* Customize over 150 Guitar based RealTracks using the new Guitar Amp Simulator (AmpliTube CS). We’ve included “Direct Input” (clean signal) Guitar RealTracks, so all the added effects come from the Guitar Amp Simulator.
* Add individual MIDI Tracks from any style, Loops support . . .:

Holy moley! Major stuffs. The amp sim wasn't something that had risen to the level of a Wishlist item in my mind, except that I did wish for it. I briefly played around with a Cakewalk sim on a couple of tracks and was mightily pleased with the results.

But wait! Loops? Please say more! If this means that I can use my multi-gigabyte (4 Gb plus) library of loops, I may actually be persuaded to play around with Real Band some.

Next stop: Rewire.

Understand that with the Amp Sim, PGMusic also included unamped versions of a number of bass and guitar tracks now, so you can get your own amped sound. There's a checkbox to choose which one you want to use.

Wowzer. Just being able to add distortion to guitar was pretty rad. And to harmonica for that Chicago sound!

We’ve added “Loops” support, so you can add your own or 3rd party Loops to any Band-in-a-Box track.
Loops are audio files (WAV, wma, m4a, mp4, mp3) that reside in the Loops folder of the RealTracks folder. You can add your own files to this folder.

Can I? Can I use REX files from Reason and ACD (I think) files from Acid? Is there pitch shifting and time stretching? Enquiring minds and all that, y'know. I may have some WAV loops but the vast majority are from Reason and Acid.

The BIAB new loops handling feature will load a loop on a track, and the loop will respond to tempo and key changes. It's very cool.

There are some loop file formats that were not supported in beta, and I'm not familiar with REX files, so you'll just have to try them. It is my expectation that PG Music will be adding support for more formats, if you find one that isn't supported.

See, a new version and a new bunch of happy folks. Wishlist stuff.

Every track can have 4 plug ins.

Dry Realtracks so you can plug those fancy effects in.

Loops.

Fingerpicking solos. With effects. Throw in loons in loops.

My Dad slapped my fingers if he caught me fingerpicking.

I can see a bunch of folks having to ask Santa (or beg) for 2012, AND a fancy new computer to allow BIAB to run with 12 plug ins, amp simulators, loops and pedal steel through OZone. I have no clue what the latter is but I know it costs more than some versions of Band in a Box and you can huff it, which slows things down.

I'm leaning towards including that pickin with the fingers, cause it sounds tasty.

There's some playing and listening to do here.

John is correct, even about the loons singing in tune and tempo. And Ozone is a terrific product to complement BIAB now. I was able to use Ozone on each track using the new VST plugin handling function (though it would probably be more normal to use it on just the Combo track).

REX loops are proprietary to Propellerhead Reason, although a few other programs can read them (Tracktion is one). They can be created using Props' ReCycle. Not sure if it works the other way round, but I don't WANT to go converting gigabytes' worth of loops so I can use them with PG products. I hope we'll hear from PG for a definitive read on this.

I read through the rest of the list of new features and RTs. All very exciting. I am, of course, looking for more nefarious ways to bend BIAB to my will. Mwahahahahaha! (hazza eebil grin)

I now have to check some of my recordings and schedule a trip up to my cabin (with a pair of nesting loons about 1/8 of a mile north and another about the same south of me. I'm positive thinking about it that the loons are always in the same 'key'. I now have to check that.

I always thought one of the great things was how band in a box sounded 'out of the box'. That left duffers like I to more on and do more great things.

I noticed years ago when using Powertracks that the sparkle and pizazz went out of the same piece that sounded so good. Now some people are going to realize they can do it more and more inside Band in a Box. The three or so times I got serious about trying RealBand too I never just got it sounding as good. But I could add more cacophany.

As someone who's prone to a 3 piece jazz band with me on keys I find adding more stuff confusing to my old messed up ears covered with this new long hair.

Signs Signs. Do this don't do that...oh dear.

Far as I can tell, for those who have 2011.5 "fully loaded," the only thing upgrading to 2012 PlusPak does not include is Loops Set 1. If so, I will go the $40 more for the 2012 UltraPlusPak which has the loops and also includes the hard drive. Did I get that right?

Acid loops are .WAV files with some extra info added to make it easier for Acid to time-stretch and pitch-shift them. In other words, yeah, you can use Acid loops. Dunno how BIAB's time-stretching/pitch shifting will be by comparison.

.ACD files, on the other hand, are Acid's song files (like .SGU and .MGU). Those not only can't be loaded into BIAB, but tend not to be backwards-compatible within Acid, e.g., a song file created in Acid 6 can't be read into Acid 5 or earlier. They keep adding on new features with every version, but you'd think they could read a subset of them....

btw, those questions of what does the sales page mean are best answered by the crew at Pgmusic, however they are on the same time as the west coast of the US of Eh and left coasters sleep in. But they come up for air around noon to check the east coast news so they can yawn at us. Try the office then.

This sounds like a keeper update.
