7GB is a bit tight if the drive isn't horribly fragmented. But if it is, and it probably is, considering how little space is available, it's more than a little tight. I'd personally bet this is responsible for at least some of his problems. Also, consider the machine is a little old and underpowered anyway, then add a lot of disk accesses and you've got trouble.




Absolutely.

My advice is to do whatever it takes to free up a bit more free space on that hard drive, ~10% free space is the bare minimum, try for at least 15% and then run a defrag on the disk. Likely should run defrag overnight as it will presumably take a long time even then.

Too many fragments can cause timing errors, especially when doing something like print routines.
