Hi John...
My problem is that the signal isn't getting through to the 1010. In fact, the USB MIDI has a couple of LED lights on it as well. When I press a key on my controller keyboard the "MIDI out" light on it flashes, telling me that the signal is there - but it stops there. It isn't getting into the 1010. I've set it up the way you told me to - GM setting - and the little LED light is there, lit, but doesn't flash when I press a key, meaning that the signal stops at the end of the USB to MIDI wire. I put in my headphones and pressed the demo button on the 1010 and it works. I just have to find out why the signal isn't getting into the 1010. The setup seems simple enough and I've checked and rechecked to make sure I have it right, to no avail. Very frustrating indeed.

OK do you have this:
1. Midi Out from the keyboard to the MIDI in of the cable
2. MIDI out of the cable to the MIDI in of the JV
3. In BIAB-- OPT > MIDI/Audio Driver setup > MIDI in driver = USB( whatever that cable is called) > MIDI out Driver = USB( whatever that cable is called)
4. Is your JV setup in performance mode so that it can play all midi channels (OMNI)
5. Are any lights blinking on the JV

You need to tell me what 'cable' you are using.
If you have a usb cable with 2 midi connectors then
1. set that as your midi sound source in Setup under windows Audio Devices (not band in a box yet.
2. Now in Band in a Box setup the Opts - Midi to the cable, Mine is Edirol UM1 Midi.
3. You should be able to click thru now, hit a key and have the sound of your keyboard go into the computer through band in a box and out to the JV1010.
Also any midi that is playing in Band in a Box will go to the jv1010 too.
If you still hear no sound swap the midi cables around and see what happens.
So
1. if you can press the volume button with the led on front panel set to midi and hear sound through earphones the unit works.
2. If you have a standard midi cable you should be able to take midi out of your keyboard and run midi in to the Roland and play it without band in a box to check that.
3. If you did what i said above it will work, unless your midi out is setup wrong on the keyboard. I have both TX and Receive set to Midi channel 1.

Well... I have gone over and done everything that everyone has suggested I do. Still the same results. My last option is to look at Matt's idea - a bad cable, even though I bought it brand new yesterday. It is a "Supra MD 100" USB MIDI converter. As stated before... when I press a key on my MIDI keyboard the signal gets as far as the indicator light on the cable itself - but it stops there. I tried connecting a straight MIDI cable from the keyboard into the JV 1010 and the signal is going into it - the LED on the 1010 flashes when I press a key... I run another straight MIDI cable out of the 1010 into the MIDI IN port on the sound card... but still no sound. However, I would prefer to use the USB MIDI converter... and so I'm going to take this one back and get a new one tomorrow. I don't have anything to lose.

Um, you don't have the Audio Output of the 1010 connected to your soundcard, amp and speakers?
Do the straight connect from Keyboard Out to 1010 IN again, this time connect headphones to the 1010 and listen. You should hear sounds as you play.

Yep... you're right Mac... A straight cable out of the keyboard into the 1010... and headphones into the 1010... press a key and hear the sound. Plug in the cable from the MIDI out on the 1010 into the MIDI in on the sound card. Then plug in the audio cables from the back of the 1010 into the sound card... can hear a sound coming from the speakers... but VERY faint. Made sure the speaker volume is up. Tried the 1010 demo... same thing... very faint. Wow... never expected this much trouble.

Yup Mac is probably correct in that assumption.
I would turn up all volumes in the sound setup of the computer before getting a new cable. If you get any sound it means the midi data is going from your keyboard to the JV1010. So the JV1010 works, we know band in a box works with the JV1010 cause I have one hooked up right now and we know you are getting sound, albeit feeble. Just find the System setup in WinDoze, and push every slider to the max. Try again. In my case I use a mixer the preamps and the system to get me the sound I need. Not to mention that you need to get some experience with the volumes inside the program....
