I hope I can ask this to make it understandable. I could email this file if someone needs it to understand what I mean..

I added Trumpet to the Melody. there is a break in the song. Trumpet plays fine but cuts short at the break & doesn't play the last note.. Also at the very end of the song the Trumpet quits before the last notes are played.. I would like the Trumpet to play the last note, & sustain at the end..

Any & all help will be greatly appreciated, oh, I am using BIAB 2012.5

If you tell us how you did the "break" perhaps it would be easier to help. Same for what you have at the end of the song.

For example, do you know how to make a chord a hold, or shot, or rest, and how to exclude some instruments? Were you using F5 and Mute?

Bar 21 C chord, Bar 22 C chord, Bar 23 C,C.
The Trumpet plays the first C in Bar 23, but not the second C when the rest of the band quit..

Ending Bar 112 F, Bar 113 C G, Bar 114 C, Bar 115 C,G C...

Trumpet quits on the last G. I would like it to play the last C & sustain only the Trumpet..

Haven't used shots, holds or rests.. In this case I didn't want the chord to sustain only the trumpet at the end..

I'd just get out the trumpet and make the note sound longer. Or get Matt to do it. I ate too much turkey and need s l e e p z z zz z z.

Happy Thanksgiving.

hmmmmm, wish I could play that note.. Matt in answer to your earlier question, yes I did do a hold o the last C... but the danged trumpet plays it's last note on the G prior to the last C. I'd like it to play the last C & sustain it for a bar & a half..

So I regenerated the trumpet & it now will play the last note but cuts it short. The bass & the rest sustian until the 3rd beat of bar 116, but the trumpet jusy plays his last note & quits rather abruptly...
And a very Happy Thanksgiving to all of you too.. I must admit I ate too much Gobbler also, & am now washing it down with a bit of Rum.. Maybe that's my sustaining problem...lol..

Is the Trumpet MIDI based or is it a RealTrack?

Is that Trumpet on the Melody or Soloist track?

Have you tried the "Rest all but..." command in the Chord Settings window?

MikeK gives you the keyboard shortcut to "Rest all instruments but..." with that m standing for the Melody track.

You will understand much more about the process if you RightClick at the bar on the Chordgrid and select Chord Settings and then examine all the options available at the lower right of the window that opens.

Real Tracks are actual audio recordings and you can only ask for a hold if it was recorded as part of that RT in the first place. All the Trumpet RT's are Soloists and none of the Soloist RT's have holds. Open up the RT picker dialog and look at the column on the far right past the artists name that says Holds. When you scroll down the list you will see numbers next to certain RT's and those are the only ones with holds. None of the Soloist's have any holds so you're out of luck. You have to use a midi synth trumpet to do what you want. With midi it's easy to go into the Piano Roll window and simply extend the note for a 100 bars if you wanted to.

Thanks Bob, yup I went there & no Trumpet with a hold... Too bad... But there are 5 Tenor saxes with holds.. I guess I could use one of them.. I tried to do a Midi, but didn't know how...

Mac, I don't see anywhere that I can rest all except the Meoldy track.. So how can I get the Melody or Soloist track to play through without stopping..

You can't rest the melody or soloist track; only the accompaniment tracks.

Perhaps you could post a copy of the file, with all parts frozen and we could take a look at it.

You just need to upload it to a file hosting site. It could be your own web site, if you have one. Or you could create a free one (which comes with limited storage, but enough to post files like BIAB files) - such as from www.webs.com, or you could use 4shared or dropbox. Once the file is uploaded, you just post a link to the file in the forum. We would then click on the link, which would take us to where you posted the file, and then be able to download it. Unfortunately, you can't just attach a file directly to a posting in the forum. You must upload it to the web somewhere and link to it.

If you need more detailed help, let me know.

Okay, Johnny sent me the files related to this for folks to see if they can help out:

Old Man And His Horn BIAB File

Gene Watson - Old Man And His Horn - Flash Video Reference

John also mentioned in his email: I would like the horn to play right through bar 23... I also modified the ending to just add a tag of 4 bars.. from 116 to ??? [the ending bar didn't come across in the email]

I'll leave these up for a few days before taking them down. Hopefully we'll have it licked by then.
