If I want to walk up from a G to a C, A,B C.. the whole band (all instruments ) do the walk up.. How do I get only the bass to do it & not the piano or guitar etc.??

Just enter the walk-up where you want it like this:

G.b C.b A.b B.b C.b

Thhis will mute all instruments except the bass.

Mike

Thanks much.. I wasn't putting the dot between the chord & the b.. so I was getting a Bb.. so is there a way to mute all instruments except Bass & let the drums play with the bass??

Yes, enter G.bd etc ... b = bass, d = drums

A better way to tell BB is to use slash chords, then apply Instrument Rests.

EX: |G,Am,G/B,C|

Then BB's algorithms are likely better at analyzing what the instruments should be doing in preceding and succeeding bars.

I've asked a similar question tonight and it may be related to this post?

Is it possible to take control over BIAB bass lines? I am finding that BIAB seems to decide what the bass plays within a note. Sometimes it plays a bass walk and other times not. My current song has these basse walks in the wrong places and I don't know how to change that?

I'm not sure I understand the replies here people have made?

Paul,

I write, arrange and mix songs. I do not use BIAB live nor do I use it to create a final mix. For me, BIAB is a stepping stone to the end result. I've found that this approach gives me added flexibility.

What I do is to set panning to center for all BIAB tracks and I then render the song to create individual, normalized wav files (this command is under "Audio"). Once the files are rendered, I import them into Reaper (by Cockos and an amazing DAW). Once in Reaper, I find the section(s) in a track that I don't like and cut it. I then copy a section elsewhere in the track that I do like and use that to fill the deleted section.

This could be another approach for you that's worth thinking about.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. It's also possible to drag the tracks straight from BIAB to Reaper.

Hi Noel

So you export your BIAB song to creat seperate wav files for bass, drums, guitar, piano etc

Then important each one to your DAW so you can edit them to create your chosen mix? I've had a look at the audio drop down box but could not find what you mentioned. Thought it might be Export Audio to Sequencer but it didnt seem right?

There's an icon in BIAB that shows WAV ... click on that once you have the arrangement the way you want it. Select Save WAV with options. Another window pops up. Under DXi - Direct Render (save WAV file), make sure One WAV file per track is checked. Then click on DXi - Direct Render (save WAV file). This will render your project to WAV files, each track/instrument will have their own WAV file which you then can import into any DAW.

Cheers,
Mike

Try simply dragging the combo buttom into Repearer (Drag and Drop) and all tracks will be move with one movement of the mouse. this works super. It may need yhou to first press the DAW button, but honestly I think it works as is. Try it.

Paul, that's the way I do it too. Uncheck the Stereo box & Save in Windows Media Format (WMA).. my reason is I then export the individual tracks to my Korg recorder via USB cable.. I do my panning in my Korg.. but you can pan in BIAB in the mixer.. When I export my tracks, I set them all to 127.. If you use Reaper or other DAw, Dan's way is the way to go..

Well the latest version, BB2013, has Simplified Bass Tracks available in the RealInstruments.

Maybe trying one of those would get something more to your liking.

lol I'm still figuring out where the combo button is let alone RealInstruments? WOW my head is spinning.....but I have managed to export each instrument track into Reaper and had a play. I'm use to Cool Edit Pro so Reaper is alittle different. Getting use to it but one thing I don't like is its lack of FX presets. Cool Edit has loads.

Found it! The combo button that is. WOW drag n drop is pretty good. Combo drops all instruments in one file but I can drag n drop each instrument one at a time in order to seperate the instrument in Reaper.

WOW the only limitations to creating great sound tracks is my own mediocre skills!!!

Now, what's those RealInstruments all about.......?

Even easier than thaT - Select in the DAW window that you want individual files as a default for the Combo. Then Just drag and drop onto a blank Reaper track and all the tracks will be created right inside Reaper.

Also, in BIAB2013 (but not older versions), there is now the option to right click on "Combo", then select "Set mix to flat, dry, and center". As stated in the BIAB help file, "This sets the song to Flat (all volumes=90), Dry (no Reverb) and Center panning. This is useful when rendering individual tracks and transferring to a DAW."
