I have a You Tube Video .. I'd like to put it into BIAB chord wizard so it can create the chords for me.. Can I convert the Video to mp3, them import the mp3 into BIAB, & have the CW put the chords into place for me.. If this can be done, can someone guide me through the process of doing this..?? I've never used CW before..
Thanks in advance..

John,

I've used this freebie for quite a few years.
Also few of my friends use it...First class video and audio
convertor.

http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/

Click the Free Download , near page center bout 3-4 inches down the screen.

Good luck. Also note the CNET rating to the right.

Here's instructions for doing it using RealPlayer which is a free download.

http://www.real.com/resources/convert-video-to-mp3

I haven't tried it yet but looks like you first get your video into the RealPlayer Libray.

Then hover over the icon for the video and a little menu window comes up.
Go to the "More" arrow at the bottom of the little window and a drop down menu will reveal the "Convert" option.

There are lots of other converters out there if you Google "convert video to mp3"
Maybe other people can recommend their favorites.

Good luck.

Thanks Frank & Carkins.. Appreciate your help greatly.. I have it converted to an mp3.. My big problem now is with Chord Wizard.. Can't seem to set Bar 1 properly, & then tap F8 on each beat 1... Is anybody interested in doing it in CW if I send the mp3, & then maybe I can see what I'm doing wrong.. I watched the Tutorial, but looks like I'm too dense..

It is F8. An interesting test is--render one of your favorite BIAB songs to WAV.,then open that wav. file in the ACW. Then compare the results.------Leon

Thanks Leon I'll try that..In my experience with the song I just put into ACW, the voice is also brought into BIAB, & the voice is completely off with the chords that ACW came up with..

The ACW is useful but tricky. What you're trying to do is extract chords from an audio file. It's hard enough with a midi file where the program can identify exactly what the notes are. In an audio file the program is attempting to first identify actual notes hiding inside drums, percussion, vocals and other musical elements and then using an intelligent algo extract what it thinks the chords are. It's not easy and there lots of mistakes made. That's the bad news. The good news and what you should focus on is the ACW is still a pretty good tool. When you transfer it into Biab it has the entire layout of the song saving you tons of time entering all that into Biab one bar at a time, then it gives you chords and even if they're not all correct it's still a great starting point and you can make whatever corrections you need. It's still better than trying to get it all by ear and then entering it step by step.

The accuracy of the chord detection depends on how complex the source music is. If it's a basic 3 chord country trio it will be pretty good but if it's a complex Tower of Power piece or some Manhattan Transfer type jazz tune with 5 part vocals, keyboards, vibes, horns and lots of polychords with harmonized bass lines then not so much.

I have found that the accuracy of the ACW is also affected by the quality of the audio file introduced to it, as well as the gain of the file. Too high gain can yield erroneous results, so can too little gain. Distortion throws it all over the place.

Bob & Mac you are right... and BIAB has come along way in a short time, & that includes ACW... The BIG problem is ME... I don't know how to use it properly.. I watched the Tutorial,& it says to get the first beat right on, it seems like I do that, but maybe I don't because it still sounds wrong...One day they will perfect it to find it's own first beat...lol..

Don't give up, it may take a bit of practice to learn how to do it, well worth the time.

**I do recommend that you start out at first using very good audio examples, though, rather than attempting to grab audio from video files, etc. as those files are typically not of good audio quality. To learn faster, you might try Ripping files from commercial CDs, which are typically going to be good audio examples. And keep your endeavors to the simpler musics as well, which are not as daunting in the way of chord identification, etc.**

Well, you don't have to necessarily "master" the thing in order to get it to do what you need it to do.

And if you doubt that you can do it, be advised that such will often be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I think I can, I think I can...

Have Fun, <-- Peter G's famous motto is the way towards mastery!
