Direct Rendering cannot be done with ANY hardware MIDI synth.

That is because the computer cannot access the data that is inside the external unit.

Actually, the Direct Render concept is relatively new stuff, those of us who have been doing MIDI work since the '80s don't mind, for we always had to arm a stereo recording track and PLAY BACK the MIDI file while recording it to Audio. Audio output of SD2 connected to Line Input of soundcard.

You can also get more control over things that way, up to and including "active" mixdown tricks -- adjusting mixer or effects manually as the file plays back and gets recorded.

BTW that Peg sequence was done entirely using Powertracks Pro ver 11.
