I've used self-adhesive heavy-duty hook and loop strips (Velcro) to attach my pgmusic-supplied hard drives directly to the back of my laptop screens for years. This method also has the advantage that the USB cable won't be subjected to excess strains, tugs and pull damage from the hard drive accidentally getting knocked around unexpectedly during a gig, it also is a good situation for the portage, can just close the laptop and drop everything attached to it into a carry bag all at once, AC power supply is thus the only "dongle".

Don't see why the same inexpensive solution wouldn't work on Pads, Tablets or Surface Pro type devices.

1" X 3" self-adhesive hook-and-loop fastener strips are readily available from sources such as Radio Shack, hardware storez, etc. and are quite the inexpensive solution.

These fastenerz also allow for the easy rempoval and replacement of the USB drive for those times when you won't be needing it to tag along, as well.
