I would like to take a midi tune and have BIAB generate a simple jazz solo guitar version of the song, that is, an accapella version of the song with both notes and chords. i would like this in a form that would be realistic for a human to play (in other words, the notes and chords don't jump all over the fretboard). I import a midi and push the "generate a guitar solo" button but it always looks likes the note and chord fingering is all over the place and not realistic.
Can anyone suggest a good way to do this?

(also, is it possible to do this in realband?)

Thanks
Super Kristen

Hi Kristen,

The BIAB Guitar Solo generation works off the Melody Track having just the correct Melody entered, plus the chords must be placed on the Chord Grid. Then it works remarkably well.

If you can isolate the MIDI file's Melody as single notes on one track and place that on the Melody track after having BIAB get the chords from MIDI file, you should be able to then save that song as a separate BIAB song and then try running the Guitar Chord Solo generator on just the melody plus chords.

The melody is important as it is the guide for the Guitar Chord Solo.

Yes, as Mac said, the critical thing is that you have only the melody on the melody track, not any other MIDI tracks. You can delete various channels using the sequencer (or move them to the soloist track).

Then apply the chord soloist. It will move around the guitar neck, as a typical guitar player does. but there are some guitarists (eg. #7) that stay in the same position (ie the current position that you have set on the guitar fretboard)

Have Fun!

Is there a video tutorial on this subject by any chance?

Try importing the midi song into Real Band. This will separate the tracks for you. Delete all tracks except the solo track. Save the file as a midi. Open BB and enter all the cords for the song. Then, import the solo midi file as a melody. Here you can turn it off or on, whatever you like. Select your jazz style of preference and instrument of preference for the melody line and press play. Walla, a jazz solo. Sounds like a lot of work, but it's not.

The whole thing can also usually be done inside of BIAB using the SEQ toolbar button after importing a MIDI file into BIAB.

The SEQ button should allow you to locate the Melody track in that MIDI file and set it to be the only thing playing on the Melody track inside BIAB.

Doing it this way, you shouldn't have to manually enter the chords, BB can find these accurately and automatically from any MIDI file.
