I don't think there is a RealTrack with wah wah in it yet.

Matter of fact, I know that.

Good one for the wishlist, though.

Be sure to mention the genre and not just the era, better yet, list an example song or two, that would help out the style developers and helping them to help you just plain makes sense.

There are some free wah-wah VST’s here.
Search under Plugins VST, click on free and windows then scroll down. You will find a search window. Input wah wah and search. I don’t know how good these wah-wah effects are but they are there and the price is right if you want to fool around with them. They may work better in RB, don’t know.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply,
The songs that i would suggest are "theme from shaft" that would be a clean guitar with wah or the intro to "Voodo chile slight return" by Jimi Hendrix and that would be a distorted guitar with wah

VST Plug-ins are great but they don't answer the OP's question "is there anything in biab that can make those sounds."

VSTs are used in a DAW/Sequencer like, as you say, in RB.

There is nothing currently in BiaB currently to create Hendrix's wah of "Voodo Child (Slight Return)."

By ther way, last week, would have been Jimi's 67th birthday.

Hard to believe. I miss him (and Janis) terribly. What a waste.

Hi Ric,

Copy that to the BiaB WishList forum if you haven't done so already.

I don't think they can get away with quoting that intro to Voodoo Chile exactly or directly, that might be a copyright issue, but I'm no Music Attorney. They *could* do some stuff "all around it" though. Funny that you would describe that one as "clean". This is an example of why I asked for direct examples. Trying to describe music in words is never a direct situation. When the Director asks for "warmer" I'm always tempted to ask what temperature, for instance. (grin) Also, "70s" would have thrown this old hippie musician way off. What was it for Voodoo Chile, '68 or '69? Can't really remember, but I associate that Jimi stuff as being '60s and not '70s. Can't remember. Because the 60s, well, that was one great year. But I did not inhale. heh

Yes, I know. I suggested these as a possible alternative.

Man, I gotta think wah would be a very difficult effect to recreate .. you don't want 'random'. but you don't want artifacts .. quite a challenge!

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Just a sweeping EQ filter makes wah happen.

... but in reality, the very very hard part in actually playing wah wah well is in synchronising the movement of the pedal to the ebb and flow of the notes and chords in a musical way (as well as knowing when NOT to move the pedal at all). The "auto-wah" type VSTs are often very unmusical because they rely on mathematical algorithms to apply wah to the incoming signal and they end up sounding stiff and unmusical. Hendrix "played" his wah wah pedal virtually as another instrument ...

There are some wah plugins that can be set to respond to a CC pedal hooked up to the MIDI controller. These can be used exactly like the real thing is used.

However, I would also note that I've never found one that sounded as neat as my old original Vox Crybaby does. But you can get close.

One thing about all these available digital simulation thangs we now have that is super-important to understand is that people who have not the experience with the *real thing* are in the dark as to how to use the simulator to emulate the real thing. Quite often is the case where I find a setting in a simulator like a plugin where you can set a parameter *outside* of what the real thing could do. Now, if you don't know the real one can't do that, if you can't hear it, then you don't know that it isn't sounding like the real thing. Or responding like it. As an example, I'm not the guy who should invoke a Rectifier Boutique amp simulator because I've never had the experience with the real thing. So I don't go there. Then again, a digital simulation of a Fender of any kind, tweed or black, or a Vox amp, I'm in familiar territory. (I've often wished that someone would write a good amp sim for my long gone but still remembered and beloved old workhorse STANDEL with the single 15 ext cabinet... HARVEY! that was a great design. )

Mac,

The songs that make up the Electric Ladyland were recorded over a course of a year from the summer of 1967 to the summer of 1968. And the LP was released in '68.

Also, not to be anal about it to everyone but just to clear things up -

The more popular song, with the wah-wah intro (covered by Stevie Ray and many others) is "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)."
The long jam with guest musicians Jack Casady on bass (see my avatar ) and Stevie Winwood on organ is called "Voodoo Chile."
