There are volatile files inside your PT folder that the program must read when opening and must write to upon closing.

When there is a crash or freeze, sometimes the program cannot get to tidy up one or more of those files and they become corrupted.

There are likely only two files involved here, one or the other or both.

ptw.ini. This file contains most of the global PowerTracks settings, especially the settings in the Options | Preferences and Options | MIDI Devices dialogs. It also has a list of the most recently accessed song files.

ptpa.cfg. This file contains information about your sound card

Please see PGMusic TechFAQ #86 for how you should go about removing these files from your folder and then restart PT so that it can generate new and properly functioning ones.
