In the last months, I have started to see a new and odd appearance of shots and holds in the chordsheet: The first one ( mimi ) represents a shot, followed immediately by ( mimimi ) a hold. Shots and holds work perfectly this way, so it's not an actual problem. I changed screen fonts recently, when this began. It showed one or two periods before, and Mimi wasn't invited. But if I enter two full stops now, I get Mimi all day long. Suggests a good song title, though. Does anybody have any idea what causes it? ______ Edit: OOPS. It's actually a specialized chord font: Opus Plain Chords. A thing like that does not possess a full stop. When I change to Times Roman, the flats don't look nice, but Mimi goes away, and that part gets normal again. For an encore, I will climb out of a tiny car with 18 of my colleagues. _____

If you do Opt, Return to Factory Settings, does it still do this? If it does, I'll bet it's a little programmer's inside joke, like the name of that person's sister...

You give me the shudders. No more Returns to Factory Settings for me. Takes two weeks to get the custom setting back.
But this weirdness clears up immediately, whenever a more complete display font is selected. Opus Plain Chords doesn't have any period symbols, so it substitutes the mimi nonsense. Some other specialized chord fonts do even crazier things in BiaB, as I have now found by experiment. They dsplay stuff that looks like Prince's name, back when he was "formerly" for a while. Other chord fonts that are more normal act very well, like the nice but informal "New Real Book" one.
Fonts dedicated to chords and their symbols are clearly not very well standardized. But my Opus Plain Chords (shipped with Overture Notation) is so handsome, I am going to continue to live with Mimi.
I am sure this programmer's sister is Mimi, but who the hell is Mimimi? Maybe he was thinking of "Moon Over Mimimi", a famous bolero in the key of Mi.

Funny.
I was wondering where you got that font, since of course I didn't have the ability to reproduce your problem. The font does look nice, though.
By the way, as of last summer, you no longer lose all your settings when you Return to Factory Settings; it gives you a chance to save them first. Plus, you can do that anytime you wish, for safe keeping.

Thanks for reminding me of that feaure for saving the settings! Slipped the elleged mind completely. That will take the terror out of a reset, if I don't forget it again immediately.
Your Encore used to come with quite a nice chord font too, as I remember. Ever try that in BiaB? It might even be Opus, in fact... Similarities between Encore and Overture are not entirely coincidental, as I am sure you know.

The newest Encore, which I am beta testing, is Encore 5.0.2.551. Since version 5.0 it includes something called NorFonts. I have not tried that in BIAB - good suggestion. Encore 2, 3 and 4 used Anastasia Fonts, and I still have those, too.
I have used Encore for twenty years and never heard of a connection to Overture. Encore was originally done by Passport Designs, which went out of business; then the rights were bought by Gvox just before everyone gave up on the program. Encore has re-emerged as a solid program once again.
Who makes Overture Notation?

What's the difference between Encore and Music Time Deluxe which I have in the current version. In fact I downloaded the latest upgrade a while back and the shipped CD or DVD is still unopened in the package. My biggest hassle with that is once every few years when upgrading my system or getting a new one I can never find the million letter long installation key.

EDIT: Whoops! I see you've already been informed. Please ignore.
You should revisit that section and see what's been added and how to use it.
We can now grab a snapshot of the thing while everything is still working -- and Return to Factory Settings will thus return to YOUR custom settings should the need arise. Works great here.

Matt,
The principal of Overture (outfit called Geniesoft) was one of the Encore programmers, who took inspiration from that work. The chord entry system, for example, is dead similar. Overture opens Encore files directly. I've read that when he thought Encore was dead after the bankruptcy, he saw a chance to offer its better features in a modernized program -- it's a conceptual follow-on to Encore, not related commercially.
I no longer think I got the Opus font from Overture. They seem to feature "Aloisen". Apparently Opus ships with Sibelius: I have "Scorch" installed, so maybe that's it. Music fonts arrive here in a fog of absolute mystery. ______

Thanks, Mac! I need all the reminders I can get.
I actually did see that provision when it was first introduced. Sounded like an answered prayer, and I remembered it vividly for 20 full minutes. I'm going to go right now and save a copy of my current settings, before brain-decay starts up again.
EDIT: The really pathetic thing is that when I went to save my settings, I could see I'd already done it twice! Blanked the whole experience right out.

Sort of a pie in the sky wish list but some stuff works for so long and then wham, you have to press that button. I haven't used the new feature, but I wish I was prompted. Some stuff like always set looping to off, and other buried features are so hard to find. Maybe as Cliff said on Cheers, I need to drink more, that kills the slow brain cells, like the wolves killing the slow buffalo, which makes the whole herd better, weeding out the slow, damaged, injured and sick. (Paraphrased).

I noticed a similar anomaly -- with the fonts, not buffalo -- when I was tooling around in Display Options. (I also uncovered another glitch, to be described later).
I didn't get the mimi stuff, but vivi. It was with one of the fonts that came with BIAB: [PGChords]-Custom. Also, the flat symbol rendered as a capital B, albeit as small-caps. I can provide a screen shot if anyone needs to see it.
Now to the glitch. (It is very minor with a simple workaround.) I can repeat it consistently.
I right-click on the song window, select Preferences, and then click Display. This opens the Display Options dialog. I then click the Custom button, which should open the Font dialog. On my computer, that dialog displays only momentarily, then disappears, bringing you back to the Display Options window. If you try to click Cancel or OK at this point, nothing happens. That's because the Font dialog is still actually open but is hidden. I can see a Font button on the Windows task bar! On my computer, I have to click the Font task-bar button two times to make it the active, current window, at which point I can make my font changes.
Added info: At first I failed to notice the Font button on the Windows task bar, so I kept clicking the Custom button on the Display Options dialog. The same thing happened again and again until I finally noticed all those Font buttons cluttering my task bar! (They say repeating the same thing over and over while expecting a different result is a sign of insanity. By that definition, I'm nuts. But this time, it kinda paid off.)

Band in a Box has had some problems off and on where windows appear in front of things and hide them. Use Alt Tab to scroll through. It used to hide an ok button you had to press to continue, it was behind the render pop up. Drove me nuts as paddy said about the steering wheel between his legs. But they fixed that one. With the new movable windows no doubt some minor coding thing needs updating to ensure stuff comes to the front. As you say, once you finger it out, not a problem. Pun intended.

Well, she's a swell gal too, Schnaz. Can't go wrong with either one, really.
I figured out the mimi stuff. That font "Opus Chords" is mapped to regard a period as its cue to display a "Minor" symbol: "mi" When BiaB feeds it two of those dots, you see that doubled: "mimi".
I wonder if the font you tried is for Nashville symbols. Roman numeral "vi" for a Neopolitan 6th?
Whatever it is, If it can't handle a proper flat symbol, it''s going to look bad, and if it can't manage even a "b" to substitute for the flat, then it's perfectly useless for standard chords. Some fonts have no minuscules (only small caps instead).
Man, you are mashing all the buttons, aren't you? I admire that. Wail on, brother. _____

It is likely best to use only the PGMusic supplied fonts within pgmusic softwares.
I like the Jazz fonts best, others may want the chords "spelled out". Both options work.
I don't think there is any Standard for music notation fonts or the mapping thereof, so fonts that come with one music program are not guaranteed to work the same in another. As you guys have been finding out.

Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
