I've set up the metronome to count in two measures. When I hit record (audio), I get the visual count down but NO sound. What must I do to get that clickety-click click?? Thanks

Isconner,
Under Prefs >> 9-Metronome >> Metronome Settings, what do you have checked?
Regards, Noel

Noel, thanks for your help.
Recording is checked; allow count in before playback is checked; keep these settings is checked.
Channel - 10 Key - F#3 Vel - 127 Duration - 2 Port - 1
Listened to a couple of your songs. Really great! Nicely mixed.

You need to be using some sort of midi sound card or DXi/VSTi

Yes, the metronome actually uses MIDI to make the selected sound.
You must have a MIDI synth invoked in the Prefs to hear the metronome.

Thanks for the replies. I still get no metronome sound. I've set the synth to something other than DXi, as it said in "help" that the metronome can't use DXi.
My sound card is an Edirol UA-25. It is selected as both input and output for the MIDI.
Any other suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks, Sam

Hi Sam,
Under Prefs >> 6-MIDI >> Midi Devices, I have Re-route MIDI playback to default DXi/VSTi checked and for Default DXi/VSTi I have VSC/DXi selected. If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, try those settings and see if it helps.
Regards, Noel

That would route the MIDI to the external MIDI hardware port on the soundcard. There are no sounds if you don't have a hardware MIDI synth hooked up to the Edirol.
Try highlighting the Microsoft Software Synthesizer in the RH MIDI Output window, then see if you can hear the metronome.

Darn, I've tried all suggestions and then some. Still no count-in sound.
The good news (LOL) is that the metronome sound does start after the count-in.
Anyway, I'm open to any other suggestions.
I do have a Korg PA 800 connected to computer VIA USB. It plays the soft synths fine in Sonar. Haven't necessarily tried it in RB.
Thanks, Sam

Well, until I get this figured out, I did a work-around. Created two new styles ( 3/4 and 4/4, drum only) in PA 800. Recorded those, saved as a wave file, imported into RB and saved as templates. Seems to work as I can time stretch plus or minus in RB and controll volume, of course.

Hi Sam, Unfortunately, I do not know a great deal about USB sound devices. Do you know if any of the MIDI only styles play in BIAB? I use the DXi synth and choose to route the MIDI playback through VSC/DXi (in BIAB). This is Opt >> Preferences >> MIDI Driver. An easy-to-find MIDI-only style would be found under Styles >> Choose From 24 'Built-In' Styles. Regards, Noel P.S. I just noticed that you listened to some of my songs a couple of days ago! I'm a bit slow. Thank you for the compliment

Sam,
When you are in track mode, just above the keyboard and slightly right of center, there is a box called "Bar Offset". I have just discovered that for a lead-in generation, this needs to be set to -2. This might help.
Regards, Noel

I often suggest this - start with a click track. Here- http://masteringmatters.com/samples1/click.midOpen that mid file and you can set the tempo to whatever you want and the click will follow, no need to stretch anything. For 3/4 use this one- http://masteringmatters.com/samples1/click3-4.midIf you have any MIDI sound source at all it should work. One advantage over using the metronome feature is that you can make it as loud as you want very easily since it is on it's own track. We often convert to audio at some point in the project and put the pgpeaklimit on it so we can blast it into the drummer's headphones. Get it loud enough and even an average drummer will have trouble ignoring it. (grin)
