I have no idea what an actual count would be.
But, indeed, I have encountered BiaB in use at some level or other at every dedicated music school at the university level where I've darkened doors. And I ASK profs, teachers and students if they use it. Mind you, I'm typically asking the Jazz oriented types, as the use of BB for honing those improvisational skills is the goal.
Even if the profs may not be advocating its use openly, the STUDENTS all know it and very many of them report using it at some level or another. Many of them just type out chord progressions that they need to learn to improvise over and use it in practicing. They aren't that interested in the production of automated backing tracks for recording as many are on this forum. They are interested in developing killer chops.
