Hi
My question is , how do I tell the new from the old? I intend to update from 2010 BIAB (USB external drive) later this year to 2011 version. I have uncountable styles now & it seems difficult figuring out the new from what I already had. Is ther anything on the "Style Picker" menue or elswhere that indicates which version the styles originated with?.......Hank

If you upgrade to the same level (or higher) as you originally purchased, then you will get everything again (plus the new stuff). So, if you upgrade from 2010 Megapak to 2011 Megapak, you won't lose any styles or features, unless you purchased additional products in the interim. You can always re-install the additional products (I hope you saved them), or you can just install the new version on top of the old version, which preserves everything that was there previously.

I always just install on top of the previous version, then make a ZIP file of my BIAB folder. When I want to install a new version, I just extract the zip file to a different folder name (i.e. C:\BB2011) and install the new version on top of it. Once I've got everything the way I like it, I do another ZIP file backup, ready for the next time. That also easily lets me keep both old and new versions running side by side until I'm satisfied.

There are other ways to do it, but that works for me and saves disk space. I don't do this with the RealTracks and RealDrums; as I have them configured to be a separate folder anyway.

Also, don't forget the "What Add-ons do I have command?" (under HELP). You can make note of what you currently have.

I hope that made sense.

Thanks John but either I don't understand your answer or you didn't understand my question. You have helped me before by the way. I will try to phrase my question more clearly.....I presently use BIAB 2010 from its external hard drive via USB. The question is, Can I open the "Styles" window & find anything that tells me which styles were part of which earlier version. For example..Which came with 2009, or which came with 2010 etc? Is there a sign, a number or some suchthing? Now I'm going to read your answer again as I know I will find useful information...Ireally thank you...Hank

Rutabago, I think the answer to your question is No.

The Select Style dialog does show you what styles disk a style is from. Knowing that, you could go to http://www.archive.org/ and look at older versions of www.pgmusic.com to see what was new each half-year. In your original post, you say you plan to upgrade to version 2011. Surely the information about that update will contain a list of the new styles.

I completely agree with John's post, by the way.

Thanks Mat
BIAB is the greatist & I use it most days, but I do get a little frustrated after entering the chords & starting to look for a suitable style. I have been slowly working my way through all the style demos & writing down the ones I think I might use some time but when I get the annual update I find it difficult to sort the old from the new. Thanks again...Hank

Scroll down to the bottom of the LH side of the Stylepicker, where you should find the styles folders listed for any new additions, Real or even MIDI.

Those new folders will only be there until the next big Styles release, when they are then moved into the classes along with older styles and new numbered folders are placed there with the latest styles in them.

I don't know a way to find all the other older styles listed by release date, don't think there is one.

HTH,

You could always go into Windows Explorer and look at all the .STY files sorted by file creation date. That will at least give you an idea of the different groupings of styles over time. You could match those dates to the various release dates for BIAB. Yes, it's a little work, but as has been stated, there isn't a command to just do this.
