Anyone know how to program triplets? Yeah, I'm waiting for the fertility jokes, but I would like to program some quarter note triplets after we all have a good laugh. Thanks for your help.

What do you mean by "program". There are a number of styles that will work as waell as RTs. Then use a 12/8 drum pattern in RDs. A shuffle beat is just 1/4 note trips with the middle note in each muted.

I'm not sure I understand this question either, but this entry from the FAQ might help: http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq20.htm#25

Thanks. I will try the 12/8 idea.

Also, the chat line from BIAB told me there is a tutorial about this.

Thanks again.

I have called BIAB Tech Support and got the a similar reply the one above that says "what do you mean program?" So I guess I wasn't clear enough. Let me try again. I am putting together a song in 4/4 using the Fast Swing. As I enter the chords (program) for the song, I am entering chord changes every 1, 2 or 4 beats. I have a measure that I would like the piano to play quarter note triplets. Is that possible? The tech support from the chat room said yes, the phone support said no. So, I am coming to you folks.

I used the notation window to enter the triplets and it worked. I saved the song and worked on another song. When I came back to the song with the quarter note triplets, they were gone.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi PlayLive50,

BIAB will certainly allow you to enter notes as 1/4-note triplets. The program may or may not display these correctly as notation (it depends on different settings) but it will always play them correctly. What I suggest is that when you listen, you do not watch the music as this will allow you to determine if the notes are being played correctly without being influenced by the visual display.

When I enter triplets of any kind, I always use the Piano Roll view. This has two functions that are very useful; these are "snap" and "dur". Clicking on these and then setting both to 1/4-note(3) will give you perfect triplets that align correctly. To enter a note, hold cntrl+shift and then left-click the mouse on the pitch that you want. As I mentioned before, though, these notes may not display correctly when back in notation mode but they will play correctly.

Under Help >> Tutorials, Tutorial #15 deals with using the Piano Roll mode. It might be worth having a look through.

Hope this helps,
Noel

If you tried to Edit the actual Piano autoaccompaniment part, you can't do that because the next time the song is generated, the autoaccompaniment engine will generate its own Piano accompaniment as per the chosen Style file.

We have only two of those tracks that are not Autoaccompaniment tracks (besides the one Audio track reserved for recording audio). The Melody and the Soloist track. If you Record or enter MIDI notes there, they will indeed "stick" after a Save.

To get what you need, try using Bar Settings to Mute the autoaccomaniment Piano at that bar, then enter the notes on the Melody or Soloist track, using the Piano instrument patch.

If done correctly, matching the Volume, Pan, Velocity and playing style of the automatic Pianist, you can create the illusion that they were all done by the same pianist.

Actually a new feature is once you've changed the piano part of the auto accompaniment track you can freeze it. Then save the song and it will be that way forever.
