RealTracks Artist Bio: Doug Jernigan

Playing steel guitar since the early '70s, Doug Jernigan is known as the fastest picking steelman of his day. His speed rivals that of other instruments, such as fiddle, guitar, or banjo. And in 1994 he earned a place in the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame for his technique and accomplishments.

Jernigan toured as a backup player for Ferlin Husky, David Houston, Jimmy Dickens, Faron Young, Vassar Clements, and many others. In 1970, he recorded his first album, "Uptown To Country." This lead to 6 more instrumental albums, shared billing on two others, and session work with country artists Faron Young, Little Jimmy Dickins, Lorie Morgan, and David Frizzell.

Today, Jernigan is known as one of the top 10 players in the world. He continues to tour as a concert performer and records country, bluegrass, jazz, pop, and blues music. His dedication and joy for the instrument permeates throughout his work.
