Having recently read the superb book by Adam Nicolson (The Seabird's Cry), which explores the lives of 10 of our different seabirds, I collected together images to accompany my piece of music which I entitled the same and posted it on YouTube (see link below)and released through Distrokid.

We've updated Band-in-a-Box® 2020 for Windows to remove uninvited high pitch noises when using mixer controls, applied faster opening of the drums window/MIDI monitor/Tuner when using the 64-bit version, fixed a few other user-reported issues, and updated the DAW Plugin with added bar markers for bar changes, resolved issues with running the plugin as a modal window in Reaper, and more!

August 27, 2020 User Showcase Song - Three Pale Brothers

The mid-60's British Folk Rock bands gave me an appreciation for the great storytelling (often mixing the supernatural with the romance of lords and ladies) of traditional songs. Subtleties of language are as much the reason I still listen to Pentangle's House Carpenter or Fairport's Tam Lin and Reynardine, as much as the fine musicianship.
This gothic tale, using some of the Americana RT`s, attempts a similar blend of ancient and modern.
(Recorded in the midst of moving, mixed on headphones and with all-Helicon harmonies... but you can still point out where I can improve).

August 26, 2020 Using Band-in-a-Box® Songs to Enhance Your Projects

Have you ever been working on a non-music project and thought to yourself, "This would be better with music."? I mean, I'm sure you have - we're all lovers of music here!

But with the legal issues that can arise when sharing a video that includes a song (for instance), it can be hard to find the "right" song!

That's where Band-in-a-Box® comes in!

You could use the SoundTrack feature in Band-in-a-Box® to 'produce' the accompaniment, choosing your genre, length of time, and fade-in/fade-out options. To use the SoundTrack feature, choose the Melody | Generate Soundtrack menu item. More information can be found here.

Know the chord progression of the song you'd like to use? Enter it into the Chord Sheet, and choose a style using the StylePicker "Song Titles Browser" feature (search the name of that song, and the program will update the Style lists to show the Styles that fit the elements of that song).

Don't know the chord progression for that song? Use the Audio Chord Wizard to analyze that song, send the chords to Band-in-a-Box, then use the "Song Titles Browser" feature in the StylePicker window!

If you're like me, you use keyboard shortcuts and hotkeys to simplify (or speed up) the common and repetative steps taking while creating projects.

Did you know Band-in-a-Box® is PACKED with shortcuts?

Keystroke commands (or "Hot Keys") can be used to access and apply song settings, quickly load songs and Styles, quickly open different dialog windows, mute or select tracks, loop, transpose, and more!

A few of my favorite shortcuts include:
CTRL T - toggle between the different main screen views
F1 - opens the Help Index
/ [Enter] - launch the new Feature Browser
S [Enter] - immediately opens up the StylePicker window.

While perusing some new styles in Band in a Box I came across _DEVLSH.STY and thought it was sweet, so I wrote this song. I was thrilled when Blue Attitude (Dave Bell & Christiane Spruit) decided to include it in their (our) repertoire. My 1st thought was to rewrite the lyrics to accommodate Chris's beautiful voice. She insisted I sing it, and I reluctantly agreed to comply. Chris did add a wonderfully devilish piano, and you all know Dave would lay down some outstanding guitar, and he did.

Then it came time for the video. Again they figured I should do it. Well, after looking all over the Internet for some free video clips to use, I give up. Chris brilliantly suggested I use metaphor instead of sexy, devilish women. Perfect! The song is not really about women; it's about avoiding temptation.

Ever since a federal judge stated "Presidents are not kings" last November, I have had this song in my mind. I'm sure this song is going to p*ss off a few people; however, I have not written a scathing rebuke of anyone's ideology, but of the president's character and competence.

Using the gospel choir in the prechorus has layers of irony.

I am a songwriter, first. Then a guitar player.
Mainly acoustic guitar.
I dabble with electric a bit.
And I dabble with piano.
I have also dabbled in...
...banjo, mandolin, bass, harmonica, saxaphone (I lent my sax to someone years ago and never got it back - no great loss), and fiddle.
You DO NOT want to hear me play fiddle. Trust me.

I constantly wish I were a piano player (as a songwriting tool, mostly). And to that end, I've been dabbling a bit more lately. Practice is always important.
So to practice, I decided to write a "piano song". And to experiment further (after the guitar vst in the last one), I decided to record it... Baby steps.
