RealTracks Artist Bio: Anwar Khurshid


Master sitar player Anwar Khurshid has studied the sitar his entire life, first under the mentorship of Ustad Nasiruddin in Pakistan, before continuing his training in India and Canada. He has now been the director of the Sitar School of Toronto since 1999. One of his main musical goals is integrating Indian Classical music with all other folrms of music, be it bluegrass, folk, or pop music, as can be heard in his work with Toronto-based band "Sultans of String," earning nominations at both the Juno awards as well as a Canadian Folk Music Awards. Anwar is also well know for his sitar work in film scores, such as the Oscar winning "Life of Pi" as well as "Love Guru," and "Kama Sutra." In 2016 he had also composed music for the film "What it Takes to be Extraordinary."
