November 30, 2018 User Showcase Song - The Wild Hounds of Passion

this is one of my fun projects that help me chase the blues away every now and then - so please dont take it seriously.

And, of course, this strange stuff didn’t come from my very brain, but I was heavily inspired by a TV conversation a couple of year ago between two of the funniest German comedians, both in their sixties, who talked about getting older, their increasing health problems and, of couse, about the physical side of love once you’ve crossed the fifties line. Although it had been extremely funny all the way the conversation became hilarious when the elder one explained that his ‘bloodhounds of carnal lust were either constantly chained up or had, even more likely, already passed away, which he claimed to make him feel superior to young folks who were still ‘slaves of their drives’.

Well, folks, forgive me, but as an affected party as regards age I simply couldn’t leave that uncommented, so here’s my modest contribution to the subject:

Audio + lyrics
Audio on Soundcloud
The (inevitable) video

Style is _BLUESSH.STY (Blues Shuffle Quintet Swing)

RealTracks in style: ~585:Guitar, Resophonic, Rhythm Blues Muddy Sw 120
RealDrums in Song: BluesShuffleHard^2-a:Snare, HiHat , b:Busy Snare, HiHat

I possibly changed the RealDrums, but, sorry, I didn’t take any note about that.

Played the guitar solos on exactly what you see in the vid: a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Custom and that amazing teeny-weeny VOX VT20 (I guess) with an Orange amp emulation.

November 29, 2018 User Showcase Song - Midsummer Carnival

This song was written in samba rhythm for the ballroom dancing CD about 5 years ago. This time, I will post the original recording of that time without doing remix.
I wrote it in Brazilian samba style. It is the samba version of the tango song that I posted about 2 and half years ago. (here )
So, it has the same melody as the tango song.

Title: 真夏のカーニバル(Translation: Midsummer Carnival)

Vocal: Natsuki Yoshikawa, our local jazz vocalist

November 23, 2018 User Showcase Song - A Shadow In The Dark

This is the first time I've attempted a piece like this. I've always been partial to piano-violin semi-classical pieces. I think this sits somewhere between semi-classical, symphonic and orchestral. I think it might be a decent track for either part of a film score or the theme for a film. I worked on this for about 6 hours last night and this is where I said "I ain't gonna get it much better, so go with it." I think writing a song is much like writing a novel in one way in particular: You consider it finished when you get tired of tweaking it.

I'm not real happy with the background choir on the chorus, but it'll do for now. Packed away somewhere I have a pretty nice set of choral loops and string sections. When I'm not so lazy/tired, I'll dig it out and make a few more tweaks. I also would like to add some timpanis one bar before the chorus

I redid the chord pattern from the style demo and added six more Real Tracks. The demo track only had the String Quartet and Horn Section - I'm to blame for everything else.

The nitty-gritty:

Title: A Shadow In The Dark.SGU
Key=A, Tempo 80, Length (m:s)=2:36

Style is _SYMPHON.STY (Symphonic Horns & Strings)

RealTracks in song: 3063:Vocal Aahs, Rhythm Pop3-part Ev 085
RealTracks in song: 2747:Synth, Rhythm AltHipHopHorn Ev16 085

Loop in Song: Dubstep\Dubstep - no_way_out_140_choir_f_sharp_minor.wav
Also a midi vocal choir from another program that I will replace with a better one later.

November 22, 2018 User Showcase Song - God Will Leave a Light On

Rock Ballad with a great message (IMHO!) from Chris and myself.

This one was totally written by Chris, she basically sent me a piano/vocal demo and I built the backing track based on that.

The Band:
RealTracks in style: 1592:Bass, Electric, Pop16ths Ev 065
RealTracks in song: ~367:Guitar, Electric, Background Dreamy Ev 065
RealTracks in song: 2558:Cello, Background SlowSwing Sw 065

I used EZDrummer2 to build the drum track

Chris is playing the piano and also the pad that comes in during the last chorus
This is not really a guitar song, but I did manage to sneak a couple of licks in there

November 21, 2018 User Showcase Song - Will Goes To Bollywood

I found this style "_Bollybt" while actually looking for something else, but when I listened to it I knew I had to try to work with this. So I fooled around and added a few things.

The song is in a traditional style (Mohanam Raga) of South Indian music, singing using the pentatonic scale.

The star of this track is Andy Leftwich, who I (miss-)used to give the singer some feedback (he can be found on RT2549). I am sure he didn't imagine himself playing on a track like this. :-)

November 19, 2018 User Showcase Song - Lately...

I grew up listening to "popular" jazz in my household as a kid, meaning the kind of chart-topping, danceable jazz that my parents and relatives would put on their record players at parties. After wearing themselves out cuttin' the rug and gettin' down to upbeat, funky jazz numbers such as Lee Morgan's "The Sidewinder", Ramsey Lewis' "The In Crowd", Jimmy Smith's "The Sermon", and others, something soft and soulful and "pretty" would be put on the turntable that would entice my parents, uncles, aunts, and their friends to put their drinks and cigarettes down and get back on the basement floor to dance to. Cheek-to-cheek, r-e-a-l slow-like, up-close and personal. Looking into each other's eyes...her arms around his neck...his hand pressed oh-so-gently on the small of her tastefully exposed back, or on her sensually swaying hip. The man whispering into the woman's ear, causing her to smile, and then give herself up to girlishly lovely laughter at whatever sweet thing he said to get the picture, don't you?

Observing things like that made me want to grow up VERY fast, you dig? Why, I'm just sure you do cool !!! So this post, "Lately...", is a tribute to those memories...

November 16, 2018 With Band-in-a-Box®, Making Music Has Never Been Easier!

We came across this recent post, Music Making Software: Record, Edit, Create and Share Your Own Songs, which includes Band-in-a-Box® in their list of software you'll need to record and edit your own songs!

One of our favourite products, and one that doesn’t seem to come up much in discussions about music making software, is Band-In-A-Box from PG Music. This is probably the longest established and certainly one of the most popular music making software packages of all time. Already packed with features, the latest version has added functions that in our opinion make this an essential buy for musicians in any genre, for keyboard players, guitarists, singers, in fact any musician looking for an outstanding tool to make the most of their creative ideas.

November 05, 2018 Customers LOVE Band-in-a-Box®!

Here's some of the amazing feedback we've received lately, from program users just like you!

Arthritic fingers means I find it very difficult to play anything. This program is amazing - and it does use real musicians!
-Bob E.

The power of this program is just unbelievable! It's been a best kept secret for a couple of decades now. A song writer's dream!
-Mike D

This band can practice any time of day ...LOL
-William G

Band-in-a-Box works so simple you could teach a child to do it within minutes - the RealTracks are amazing. Doing an album as we speak. I challenge you to give it a try. I am 60 years old and even though I've played 50 years, I am no engineer. But as a song writer I needed some effective tools to create quality production of my work. This is IT! It's as easy as typing and filling in the blanks. The instructional videos allow you to change settings while watching the pro. I myself purchased every "RealTrack" I could get... Take it from me, don't let this overwhelm you. It is absolutely a writer and solo artist dream!
-John S

Best part of Band-in-a-Box is that it saves me having to program drums, the Real Drummer part of the software is brilliant and natural sounding. I then layer real instruments with guys from my band. As a songwriter, Band-in-a-Box has saved me so much time it's ridiculous.
-Andy B

Incredible Software. Great for ignorance and experts and for anyone who wants to deal with music. If you do not have a hobby and want to have one "Band-in-a-Box" is the best choice. Simple, but if you want to be an expert on it, you need to make an effort to master it perfectly for perfect use. The only disadvantage is if you do not want to become a musician, and use it, you will become a perfect musician. Therefore, be cautious. It's not a toy. ;)
-Ilija B.

Been a BIAB man since '92, such a comprehensive source for music making! So much more to offer than "loops", it allows actual music composition to be realized. Evolve from harmonic ignorance and find out what REAL music is made of!
-Don D.

A must for any musician who wants to improve on his own, or to share his musical ideas in a professional high quality rendition.. You just play with the best musicians and that's great ♪ :)
-Jean-Marie D.

I use Band in a Box all the time. I couldn't be more pleased. It's easy to use and it sounds super-big time!
-Max R.

An excellent tool for generating backing tracks. Saves me hours of MIDI programming. Combines the best of MIDI and live audio samples.

November 05, 2018 User Showcase Song - When The Impact Has Worn Off

Here is something bit funkier this time, I tried to catch the mood of Prince's more rock oriented hits. Unfortunately my voice is not strong enough for this song and some parts were too challenging for my tongue, but I hope you can overlook these small issues

On a local musician forum there was a contest for songs related to mental health. I actually won that competition, but not with this song. The subject gave me ideas for other songs, and this one was also inspired by that subject. The message of this song could be that woman is a drug you can't be weaned off, after you have mistakenly tasted it.

November 02, 2018 User Showcase Song - A Good Enough Reason

The 90's Nashville sound was a big part of my life and a big part of my music.
It was a real "golden age" of Country music. The writers were down-to-earth people. The artists were immediately identifiable - by their voice and their sound. The songs were solid. Well written (for the most part) and catchy, memorable (for the most part).

So dipping back into that time, that sound....
